A growing force in the realm of female-fronted hard rock, Charlotte, NC-based Tattermask weaves complex guitarwork into expressive drumbeats overlaid by powerful vocals with cerebral lyrics.
Music snobs... or “enthusiasts” ...express delight with the level of craft and analysis that this fivesome puts into its melodic/rhythmic interplay to create a deeper meaning for each song. With “an explosive sound that falls somewhere between Evanescence and Sevendust,” Tattermask proves it can run the gamut on the rock-metal continuum and maintain universal appeal.
Since its inception in late 2007, critics and fans alike have flocked to experience Tattermask’s live performance that delivers “a wallop of overall intensity” and grab a coveted copy of the band’s 2008 debut EP, “Looks Can Be Deceiving,” which drew a great deal of media attention for the band. Spending the majority of 2009 and 2010 playing shows, vying for awards and honors, and developing their sound and their fanbase, the members of Tattermask finally released another record, the full-length album “After the Storm...” on 11/11/11 to an enthusiastic audience in their hometown amid a frenzy of radio, newspaper, and magazine interviews. With that, Tattermask’s reach has gone global, and the band is as thirsty for more eager ears as fans are for more music.
In addition to the seriousness with which the band approaches its music, the members are also showing their silly side with a couple of well-received mockumentary “webisodes” that prove the band is not all-business, all the time. Already having written yet another full-length album’s worth of tunes since the last release, Tattermask seeks to stretch itself to the limits by playing bigger concerts, touring more extensively, networking with more bands and fans, and continuing to write the best music of which it is capable in 2013 and beyond.
Xstrophy was truly created the day Leonard Newton was born. Leonard was born with a rare birth defect called an Exstrophy. This made his life extremely challenging and filled with pain, suffering, near death experiences and over 15 surgeries. The way he dealt with all of this was to write. He put all his anger, hate and pain down on paper and knew at some point he would share it with the world. He also knew he would name the band after his birth defect. Exstrophy means to have things on the inside of your body born on the outside. To Leonard, this is exactly what music is, everything you have on the inside of your body and soul is shown to the world. So this was the perfect name for the band...Xstrophy.
The band was truly founded in 2008, when Len met Pat Bowser. They had the same musical tastes, and his guitar playing blew Len away. They began working on songs together throughout the year. There was a mixture of old songs Len had written, completely new songs, and the occasional Metallica cover.
Throughout the next year, Xstrophy started to play out, making a name for themselves throughout the DC, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh areas. After a few lineup changes, the band consists of Len and Pat, bassist Zack Arthur and drummer Cory Birdsell. This combination embodies what modern metal needs, heavy, original, in your face thrash.
Xstrophy has just released their debut album "My Tortured Past" which has been getting great reviews in the world of metal. They are currently planning a summer tour as well for 2013. Keep checking back for more updates on where to find us live, and let us know if you want to see us in your area!
