Chris Dingman's "The Subliminal and the Sublime"

Hailed by the New York Times as a "dazzling" soloist and composer with a "fondness for airtight logic and burnished lyricism," Chris Dingman is one of the most sought-after vibraphonists and composers of his generation. Schooled in the jazz tradition, yet influenced by a wide range of music and experience, Dingman draws inspiration and meaning from a diverse set of musical sources, uniting them in a progressive approach that has earned him praise as "an extremely gifted young composer, bandleader, recording artist, and much sought-after sideman" (Jon Weber, NPR), for his "deeply lyrical" (Nate Chinen, NY Times) and "poignant work" (David Sprague, Variety).

In 2012, Dingman was named Rising Star Vibraphonist of the Year in Downbeat Magazine, was an Up-and-Coming Artist of the Year nominee at the Jazz Journalist Association Awards, and was featured on NPR's Piano Jazz: Rising Stars. Dingman has performed with many of the world's greatest musicians, including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, and many others.

This evening's performance marks the NYC premiere of Dingman's latest composition suite, "The Subliminal and the Sublime," the highly anticipated follow-up to his critically acclaimed Waking Dreams. Commissioned by Chamber Music America, "The Subliminal and the Sublime" is a suite of transcendent beauty, with gorgeous layers of sound and thrilling twists and turns. Featuring a top-notch band of musical visionaries, this is an evening of music not to be missed.
