David Harness is one of the most popular DJ/producers in the San Francisco Bay Area club scene. He has been described as 'a man who lives, breathes and emanates everything that is beautiful about deep house music and classic garage.' David is considered a 'rising star' within the dance community. As a military brat, David Harness traveled the world extensively during his childhood. 'Regardless of which country I was in, I always heard American music, namely R&B. This little bit of familiarity really helped me feel secure in a lot of different places.' With influences varying from Barry White and the Love Unlimited Orchestra, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Quincy Jones, the Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder, Parliament Funkadelic, the Isley Brothers and First Choice, it is easy to see why funk and soul have always been strong elements in his sound. In 1990, David began DJ'ing at the After Dark in his hometown of Monterey, California. As his popularity grew past the boundaries of Monterey, he was invited to establish a residency at Tilt and the Sound Factory in San Francisco. In 1994, David opened and DJ'ed at the hip and popular club Lift at Club Dv8 in San Francisco. His success as a club DJ led to a DJ spot on commercial radio. In 1994, David joined the popular radio show Your Mama's House on the San Francisco Bay Area's number one radio station KMEL FM. Your Mama's House was the only 'true' house mix show on any major radio station in Northern California. As part of the Your Mama's House crew, David played a key role in exposing the masses to House Music in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1995 David kicked off a seven year residency at San Francisco 's legendary Club Universe — San Francisco's hottest Saturday night party. At Club Universe, David had the opportunity to play with many New York's legendary DJs like Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, Little Louie Vega, Tedd Patterson, Dave Morales, Danny Teneglia, London's Ricky Morrison, Los Angeles' Marques Wyatt, San Francisco's Miguel Migs, Mark Farina and Kaskade — just to name a few. His growing popularity accelerated David's natural progression into production. In 1996, David was selected to spearhead the studio production for a national marketing campaign for the McDonald's Deluxe Burger. Also in 1996, David begin his ongoing residency at The End Up Sunday T-Dance — San Francisco's longest running dance party. In 1998, he released a CD for Universe Sounds and Twisted America, 'Welcome to the Universe'. This innovative CD, recorded live from Club Universe, reflects San Francisco's unique 'sound' and introduced the world to David Harness. Recognizing his talent, Twisted America quickly signed him to produce his first single, 'Get It Together', for a Twisted America compilation entitled 'A Little Bit of the Old, A Lot of the New'. David also started his ongoing residency at Fag Fridays in San Francisco in 1998 where he is still rockin' the floor. In 1999, David started Taboo in San Francisco's Mission District. Taboo started out of David's love of House music and his desire to provide a showcase for Bay Area talent as well as internationally known DJs. This ongoing party attracts a loyal crowd of househeads from around the San Francisco Bay Area and the globe to the weekly blending of spirit and soul. In September 2000, David launched DHJ Productions and has established himself as a respected producer and remixer. To date, David has worked on projects featuring artists such as Mary J. Blige, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Simply Red, Alicia Keys, Floetry, Donnie McClurkin, India Arie, *NSYNC and Donnell Jones. A collaborative effort with DJ/producers Chris Lum of Abitare Music, Jay J of Moulton Studios, and Charles Spencer of LoveSlap has resulted in several independent releases. David has appeared in articles and interviews in Billboard Magazine, Paper Magazine, Surface, XLR8R, Streetsounds, Sweater, HX, Next, URB, DJ Mag and the SF Bay Guardian. David Harness' passion, talent and creativity has definitely created a new page in the history of house music.
Jeno (Noise From the Void)
Fueled by an enigmatic mystique, DJ Jenö has remained one of San Francisco's most beloved and sought after DJs for over two decades. Developing a passionate love for music from an early age he spent several years as a punk musician & songwriter, before discovering djing and falling into the vibrant London warehouse party scene of the mid 80s. Once Acid House fever hit the UK, Jenö never looked back, becoming known for his heady Whoosh parties, and his involvement in the early days of the notorious Tonka Sound System.
Inspired by Tonka's cheeky f**k the rules attitude, and in search of a more psychedelic groove, Jenö, along with his British cohorts Garth, Markie & Thomas headed to San Francisco in the early 90s. This was the beginning of the now world renowned Wicked Crew, who were instrumental in firing up the SF dance music scene with their now legendary “Full Moon” parties. These wild & free outdoor gatherings were the foundation for an eclectic and soulful underground dance scene, and the driving force of the growing rave community on the West Coast.
By the mid 90s, Jens's musical talents and commitment to the dance floor had helped inspire and define a new “San Francisco sound,” bringing international attention to the city's burgeoning dance music scene. With all eyes on San Francisco, DMC sought out Jenh's talents for a mix on their prestigious CD series, United DJs of America. Joining the ranks of legends Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Little Louie Vega and Doc Martin, he put together a mix of fresh local music and classic house sounds that helped put San Francisco firmly on the dance music map.
In 1995, he and the Wicked Crew took things to the next level, importing a custom made Tony Andrews designed Turbosound system from the UK. With Wicked very much in demand there was nothing else to do but hit the road, piling into a beautifully restored 1947 Grayhound bus with their own band of merry pranksters, delivering their soulful psychedelic sounds with a rock'n'roll attitude that took the U.S by storm. The touring continued through the late 90s, including some unforgettable stops at Burning Man, Reggae on the River, and even a Jane's Addiction concert in 2001.
As the new millennium approached, Jena took his talents to the studio and began producing his own unique take on dance music. He met all expectations with several remixes on fellow Wicked DJ Garth's Greyhound label, including the internationally acclaimed “Stormy Weather” remix of Rocket’s “People." This was followed by remixes on Cheeky, Turnaround Sound, NRK & others. Jenö’s production talents aren’t limited to the dance floor, having worked on some dark brooding indie music in recent years, and currently producing live acid house for his monthly "Cult of the Acid House" party.
In 2004, Wicked disbanded after 13 years of amazing collaboration. Undeterred Jenö and Garth have kept the spirit alive with their regular Back2Back appearances up and down the West Coast; a fun loving and boundary pushing musical romp through the last 40 years of dance music.
In 2011, Wicked reformed with a “Twenty Years of Disco Glory,” reunion tour encompassing 13 cities across the country. The success of the tour has put a vital missing piece back into the global dance community, and a newly inspired Wicked will be hitting the road again in 2012 and beyond.
Jenö’s mythical mixing talents have translated far and wide with a diverse international cult following. He has demonstrated these talents on the decks in the premier clubs across the globe, including the legendary Twilo in NYC, The End, Fabric & Ministry of Sound in London, Unit in Tokyo and the Rex Club in Paris. Jenö continues to perform & present music with a unique and psychedelic perspective, djing regularly again across the US, as well as hosting his own musically mischievous cult radio show - Noise from the Void, every Tuesday night at 90hz.org.
Dishing out booty-shaking beats has been a calling for DJ GUY RUBEN since he was a kid as he took hold of the family's stereo system. Fueled by everything from Madonna, Donna Summer, Depeche Mode, to Radiohead, the young music aficionado collected many 12-inch records and pieced together mixtapes by recording songs directly off the radio. As he matured, so did his passion, perspective, and opinion on what sounds get people to move. After being inspired by seeing late '90s and early '00s legendary house music DJs play and some motivation from friends, Guy Ruben hit the dance floor hard in 2007, and has been entrancing partygoers with his unrelenting beats ever since. Now, he's a tour de force in the SF club scene, and has earned residencies at 440, Powerhouse, and Lookout. He's lent his seductive and edgy sound to countless parties around the Bay Area, recently in New York City, Los Angeles, and Toronto.
Influenced by the likes of Todd Terry, Danny Tenaglia, Riva Starr, DJ Dan, Bad Boy Bill, Treasure Fingers, Donald Glaude, DJ Dimitri from Paris, Hannah Holland, Calvin Harris, Nita Aviance, Armand Van Helden, Eli Escobar, Carl Cox, Basement Jaxx, Freemasons, LA Riots, and Cajmere. DJ Guy Ruben evokes all their spirits and interweaves DJ sets with his signature red telephone headphone. Specializing in electronic and house, Guy Ruben's tastes cross all genres. He's been known to seamlessly infuse his sets with tech, nu disco, '80s and '90s dance tracks, indie dance, world beats, acid house, Italo disco and R&B funk. Whether it's a party, a club, or a raucous bar environment, he constantly reads the crowds to give them a beat that's fresh.
