A Fistful of Sugar
A collaboration between veterans of the Philadelphia folk, trip-hop, bluegrass, R&B, and musical theater scenes, A Fistful of Sugar was convened in late 2010 to solve all the world's problems with pretty little tunes. So far, so good.
Centered around strong, lush vocal harmonies and driving "new folk" instrumentals, the product is a distinctly modern sound that resonates with echoes of 1930s hot jazz, traditional 'old-timey' country, gypsy jazz, and other roots musics. With six vocalists and distinctly bluegrassy instrumentation, A Fistful of Sugar has wowed audiences across the Northeast with their powerful, genre-bending, energetic performances that range from the syrupy-sweet to the gritty and swampy.
A Fistful of Sugar completed their self-titled demo in August 2012. They are heading into the studio this spring to record their first full-length album, due for release summer 2013
Foxhound is the folk duo of Chris Kasper and Kiley Ryan, hailing from the rolling hills of Philadelphia. Chris and Kiley are former members of The Lowlands and Hezekiah Jones; and Foxhound combines previous styles into a new sort of Psychedelic Appalachian folk music. Like ghosts living underwater. Simple and heart felt lyrics set in harmony provide the content to sweeping fiddle lines and fine guitar fingerpicking. Individually, the duo's past musical history is vast, each having toured the country several times over with major acts such as Good Old War, Amos Lee, and The Wood Brothers.
Allysen Callery is an alternative folk artist from Rhode Island, with an intricate and unique fingerstyle and a voice that has been called "mesmerizing" & "angelic". Growing up in New England, she was heavily influenced by her parent’s British Isles Folk Revival records of the late 60′s early 70′s. She has been called “The Tim Burton of Folk Music”, her quiet & dark style has made her a favorite of artists & critics alike, including Marissa Nadler who listed Winter Island in her Best Albums of 2011. In 2012, Allysen was named the Best Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter Act by the Providence Phenix.
