RUN BOY RUN
Formed in the summer of 2009, Run Boy Run has emerged as "a prevalent force in the desert music scene." After winning the coveted Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest in 2011, Run Boy Run has been busy crafting a growing catalog of traditional, original, and familiar material for performances at favorite local music venues, at national and regional festivals, and on A Prairie Home Companion.
The unique sound of Run Boy Run is rooted in the traditional music of the Appalachian South. Bands like Nickel Creek and Crooked Still paved the way for the music of Run Boy Run: dynamic, orchestral, and overflowing with beauty. Run Boy Run exists in the tension between tradition and frontier. Three strong female voices weave a spectacular tapestry of sound. Award-winning fiddle cuts a path for a tightly formed rhythmic front. Every arrangement is - at it's core - beautiful.
Brother and sister, Matt (fiddle, guitar) and Grace Rolland (cello, vocals), have fiddle music running through their blood. Raised with bow and rosin on every bedside table, Run Boy Run was a natural fit. Sisters, Bekah (fiddle, vocals, guitar) and Jen Sandoval (mandolin, vocals), grew up deeply ingrained in the Bluegrass festivals of Arizona, so they too found a home in Run Boy Run. Jesse Allen (bass) was brought up on opera and western swing, and grew to love the natural fusion inherent in American music. The whole truly exceeds the sum of the parts as touches of classical, jazz, and folk express themselves through the old-time core of Run Boy Runís unique sound.
Singer/songwriter Seth Adam is well known for his passionate live performances. The alt-country, rootsy rocker draws comparisons to Counting Crows, Will Hoge, and Son Volt. His last studio release, "Amplify" (2010) was described by New Haven Advocate writer James Velvet as "This 10-song full-length is beautifully written, played and produced. This level of craftsmanship and polish are not often heard on the local scene." Never one to rely on the norms of the music industry, this self-described "scrapper" takes a page out of the Lucinda Williams instruction book by performing frequently and writing deeply personal, heartfelt rock & roll songs. He has shared the stage with Grammy-winning Robert Cray, Tonic, Vertical Horizon, Carbon Leaf, The Alternate Routes, Will Hoge, Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), and Mayer Hawthorne, has had a song licensed to Volkswagen, and was described by entertainment columnist Roger Friedman as "the hardest-working best live act in indie rock." Seth, along with Gerry Giaimo, John Jackson, and a cast of studio musicians, are currently preparing to release the third studio album, titled "Steel Tempered Pride," projected to release in September of 2013.
