Reload : Nikita, Brian Knarfield, Emanate

On the same day Dolly Parton, Janis Joplin, Edgar Allen Poe, his mother and grandmother were born, so too did San Francisco DJ NIKITA begin his enchanted existence. As a young boy in Denver, Colorado, NIKITA's childhood was similar to that of other creative youth, days filled with singing, playing the piano, and dancing to his mother's R&B albums. From an early age, NIKITA always knew he wanted to be an entertainer. Then, in 1993, a chance encounter with house music at an underground warehouse party would prove to be a pivotal moment in his life, ultimately guiding NIKITA towards the charmed life he lives today.

It wasn't until the turn of the millennium though that NIKITA would leave his home in Colorado to search the clubs and warehouses of San Francisco for his destiny. At the very least, he would get a degree in music business from San Francisco State University. But with a resounding perseverance and an inimitable personality, NIKITA quickly earned his place among the upper echelon of DJs in San Francisco's world-renowned club scene. In 2005, NIKITA was chosen to host his own radio show, The Massive Mix, on Northern California's only electronic dance music radio station, Energy 92.7 FM. Indeed, it was NIKITA's penchant for blending raw grooves with sophisticated sounds that garnered him a residency at San Francisco's legendary nightclub, The EndUp.

NIKITA is a DJ's DJ, a rare soul who truly understands his role in the DJ booth. Performing anywhere from two to twelve hour sets, NIKITA weaves music into fantastic journeys of rhythm and sound. NIKITA's ability to contrast the harder elements of techno with the soulful sensuality of deep house has garnered him accolades from some of the world's best DJs and allowed him the rare opportunity to tag team alongside the likes of Lee Burridge, Cassy and Derek Plaslaiko. Indeed, NIKITA has played with a Who's Who of international talent, including Danny Howells, Steve Lawler, Craig Richards, Steve Bug, Damian Lazurus, M.A.N.D.Y. and many, many more. With additional inspiration coming from friends such as Ms. Honey Dijon, Tedd Patterson and Danny Tenaglia, it comes as no wonder why NIKITA's story is one of a dream come true.

Nikita is has been working on music production, and has releases set for later this year...

Brian Knarfield

The Bay Area native and Direct to Earth co-founder wasn't always into Techno or House.
Brian first became interested in DJing watching DJs on BET's 106 and park.
Only being in 6th Grade at the time, Brian set out to Find a record store that had good Rap but instead met Trance and Progressive, soon enough 106 and Park was a distant memory as time after school was sucked away by the record store.

Brian played with production software hours on end throughout High school, College and while writing for his ex-band "Systems Octopus". It wasn't until Brian was 20 that he started listening to Minimal, Techno and Deep House and its influence on him lead him to take beat making more seriously and into a focused setting. Releasing and remixing for labels the likes of Fierce Animals Recordings, Kabutomushi, Istmo Music, Rough Rabbit Recordings, Gynoid Audio and Mizumo Music.

Aside from grinding away in the studio for the last 5 years Brian has been equally dedicated to reveling. His work with local artists and Labels to showcase unique underground talent has been instrumental
in the co creation of the Local Event series: Direct To Earth (DtE); Designing Flyers, Managing the Website and maintaining a musical presence as a Resident of the imprints Events. Over the years Brian has been billed along side artists such as: Daegon, Tiari, Dave Aju, Max Cooper, C.L.A.W.S., Michael Penman, The Missing Link, Jason Short and Crawlie to name a few.

As kids growing up being fans of the rave, Emanate aka Nathan Vain & Emily Fox fell in love with the mystique of electronic music. Nathan Vain knew right away what his future held when he acquired his first turntables at the age of 17. Emily Fox took a different route starting her journey in the scene as a promoter and landing Nathan his first residency at a popular after hours spot back in 2001.
A few years down the road and a desire for success growing strong they moved to San Francisco together and started producing music as Emanate in 2003. From House, Breaks to Downtempo they’ve established and developed their skills experimenting with influential song styles and formats but have never strayed far from their roots with deeper Techno and Tech House music. Nathan enhanced his knowledge of the industry working at DanceRecords from 2004 – 2009 with a stint interning at the Mothership/ Dirtybird offices. Emily developed her understanding of the Electronic music culture by throwing various parties throughout San Francisco over the years.
Following the path of natural evolution and with various label influences they started up their own label, Mioli Music. Since 2010 they’ve released music as Emanate and individually as well as have signed various International artists on Mioli (Move It Or Lose It). Today Emanate is primarily involved in Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Nu Disco. With their DJ sets you can expect a clever blend and balance of deep and edgy music.
