Due to the proximity of Florida to the Caribbean, the members of Paddington Ambush have firsthand experience witnessing & performing true island music of the Caribbean!
Most American "reggae type" bands today blend elements of contemporary musical styles to Caribbean grooves thus reinventing or branching off the Reggae tree.
The music of Paddington Ambush unequivocally feeds from the tree, taking influence from Culture, Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, Toots & The Maytals, Don Drummund & The Skatalites, Alpha Blondy, Bounty Killer, Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Israel Vibration, Sly & Robbie and producers Lee "Scratch" Perry, Bunny Lee & Osborne 'King Tubby' Ruddock.
Control This! has quickly risen to the top of the Central Florida ska and reggae scene since its formation in March of 2012. Formed by saxophonist Jeff Richey, Control This! provides authentic ska, rocksteady and early reggae sounds. After touring the globe for 9+ years in the legendary 2-tone and 3rd wave ska band, The Toasters, Jeff has decided to go back and rediscover the root of his passion for Jamaican music. Control This! pays tribute to Studio One and Treasure Isle sounds of the 1960's and 1970's. From fast-paced traditional ska instrumentals, to the bubbling sounds of rocksteady, to the heavy sounds of lover's rock and reggae, Control This! touch on all the nuances and sophistication of the early Jamaican music.
Ruddies in search of traditionalism and the smooth rock steady sounds that aspire to be kin to all that is the founding sounds of Jamaican/Brixston Rock Steady Ska Reggae. The Duppies are a high powered seven piece rocksteady ska band of eight years from Gainesville FL. Their sets include an attention getting rhythm section prone to causing fits of dancing fury backed up by rip roaring horn solos from the sax and trumpet. Top it all off with smooth vocals and stream lined percussion.
With a minimum of 400 shows under the belt The Duppies have played with such acts as The Slackers, The Toasters, Less than Jake, King Django, New York City Ska Jazz Ensemble, Pato Banton, Westbound Train, members of the Skatalites, Whole Wheat Bread, Void Union, etc. Tours have included playing venues such as Middle East in Boston, Trash Bar in Brooklyn, Churchills in Miami, Dragons Den in New Orleans, The Social in Orlando, The Mohawk Place in Buffalo and many more.
The Duppies are a unique Florida gem keeping the rocksteady alive in the Southeast with a loyal following and a level of professionalism that keeps people wanting more.
By no means a band, more like a collective of fellas from the streets of NYC and East LA.
