The Misfits

From the hell they came… 30 years ago in a small town in New Jersey called Lodi. It was there, at the dawn of the punk movement in April 1977, that the Misfits were born. Taking for their name the title of Marilyn Monroe's final movie, they set out to make an impression. They wound up making history and creating a legacy which has withstood the test of time. Today, boasting a massive catalog of music old and new, a new lineup and an influence felt around the world, the Misfits are generating more interest than ever before.

From its inception, the Misfits were primal. Their music was aggressive, confrontational and dangerous with violent lyrics as seen through the eyes of a monster, coupled with timeless vocal melodies bred from 1950's rock and roll. Immortalizing black and white B horror films in their music, the Misfits developed a ghoulish and totally unique persona, from their hand made musical weapons to the stiletto hairstyle they called the "devil locks." It was the early days of punk and they had created a rebellion all their own.

Thirty years on, the Misfits have endured hardcore's heyday as punk rock's monster squad, a band whose cult following – a pseudo-secret coven known as the Fiend Club – inspired them to continue to write, record and tour. These "Fiends" (as their fans are known), which are still multiplying globally, go back now several generations and also includes many artists. In fact, bands across the spectrum of rock have offered their tribute by covering the band's material, including Guns 'n Roses, with the classic Misfits song "Attitude;" My Chemical Romance who revisited the classic "Astro Zombies" for the soundtrack to "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland" video game; Hatebreed with their namesake song "Hate Breeders" on their upcoming Fall 2008 release "For The Lions" and Metallica who covered no less than three Misfits songs on their double CD set "Garage Days Revisited," while hailing the band as a key influence on their music. A tribute album entitled VIOLENT WORLD featured the likes of Prong, NOFX and Sick of It All.

The Attack

Classic, face-smashing, broken bottle punk is all but lost on the Pitchfork-worshipping, women's jeans-wearing masses whose idea of youth rebellion is going to see American Idiot on Broadway. Well, with that being said, allow yourself to feel the old school fury of the Attack. Formed by Charlie Bender, one-time frontman for the Orlando, Florida-based ska band the Spitvalves, and his partner in the acclaimed screen printing company Enemy Ink, Brad Palkevich, on guitar alongside bassist Mikey Cortes and drummer Tito Esquiaqui, this quartet delivers the kind of vintage melodic hardcore that will take true punkers right back to the days of CBGB's Sunday matinees on Of Nostalgia and Rebellion, a self-released call-to-arms featuring 12 tracks loaded with punishing breakdowns, gang-style singalongs, and riffs as crushing as a curb sandwich. Fans of the Cro-Mags, Lifetime, and Agnostic Front will certainly relish in the rage of such key tracks as "Prove It", "Matters", and an incendiary cover of CCR's "Bad Moon Rising" that just might prove John Fogerty had roots in punk rock after all.

Superpunk Skarantella Reggae Rumba Fury!

ASKU! Our 10 members hail from the USA (Florida, New York, Oklahoma), Cuba, Italy, France, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. We are what one would expect from a mix of punk kids, rockindios, an indie trombone player, unemployed massage therapists, immigrants, santeria priests, dog owners, tokers and boozers, etc! What results in the music are very diverse & bizarre influences from adapted santo beats, punk, ska, reggae, cumbia, italian folk, oi, flamenco, patchanka, and more.

This band could not have developed anywhere but Miami! In 2007, italian-american frontman & guitarist Andrew Chisena left New York with four songs and a desire to meet other musicians with whom he could share a vision. He quickly met french bass player Mathieu Bernard and it took two years of writing songs and searching for band members with good quality & heart to finally play a show... the unleashing of and catharsis for Askultura was undeniably fierce, positive, and swelling!

Colombian-american drummer Johnny Colorado sits behind a traditional 5-piece set with a latin percussion rig at his side and provides the hard-hitting punk beats, the best 1-drop reggae, and the strong yet delicate touch needed in meeting the bands desire to play with husher tones like the folk musics from Italy, Colombia, France, Cuba, and the US. By his side are Cuban conga & tumba player Jason "Tio" Rodriguez and Nebraskan washboard player Captain T.J. MacEllroy. Young cuban-american trombone and trumpet player Eddie Gonzalez is a badass on the bone and adds power, melody, and a tight-knit fro, yes a fro. We're talking about his hair. Lead guitar Sergio Gato adds thick sound, years of experience, and wide range of technique to the mix. Accordionist Gabriel Reyes adds the punch & quality necessary for the next evolution of Askultura, and is also the bands internal graphic designer, practice-house owner, as well as being a bloody-knuckled ex-bass player for Propagandhi-esque Miami HC/punk band Mindyou. Next to Andrew at the front of the stage is Jennifer Pierre, a seductress, a smokey voice, a silky smooth vocalist from the Dominican Republic who was once described as having "the voice of an angel and the hands of a sumo wrestler."

When all instruments thromb & six of the nine members are singing Asku becomes an undeniable force. Roll together America Latina and Europe, throw in some furious reggae punk ska, lyrics that have the intention of getting an audience to emulsify, move, and repeat and you have Askultura…the jumble word that comes from italian "ascolta la cultura" or "listen to culture."
