Praying Mantis Entertainment presents
Praying Mantis Entertainment presents an evening of local music featuring Civil Holdup with special guests Widow Maker Social Club, RFA & more!
Hiding Scarlet is a violin infused progressive rock band from Central Pennsylvania. This quintet is known for their energetic and dramatic live performances. The fusion of musical genres including progressive rock, metal, classical, Celtic and alternative rock fuel this groups explorations of dark vs. light themes with a tinge of elegance. With 7 string guitars, beautiful violin lines, haunting vocal melodies and a well timed rhythm section merging into one atmosphere Hiding Scarlet is dedicated and devoted to producing the music that moves our souls while providing listeners with a commentary of the human condition. That human condition which can be comprised of despair, rejection, and death counterbalanced by joy, hope, and life is what pushes this ever evolving and innovative band to pour out passion for music in everything they do and connect directly to you the listener.
Smacking madison is a rock band from Coatesville, PA. Since forming in 2009, they have been developing their sound and writing songs that now possess a brilliant hard rock texture, with an alternative edge. ‘Music you can feel, and a show not to miss.’
The Big Black Night
Bodhilynn (Bo-dee Lynn) is a Delaware born singer with a natural born love of the blues. She is currently singing covers in an acoustic duo.
Civil Holdup is a hardworking original rock band from the Philadelphia area based out of Pennsville, New Jersey. With songs varying from dark and beautiful to fun and energetic, Civil Holdup's original material is interesting and different. Civil Holdup songs span multiple genres including rock, alternative, blues-rock, and folk-rock with a sound similar to Band of Horses, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Cage the Elephant, and Incubus. In addition to these bands, Civil Holdup draws influences from artists like Pink Floyd, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Green Day, Rage Against the Machine
Civil Holdup projects these multiple moods through dramatic live performance and thoughtful song writing. The songs are musically and instrumentally complex, but easy to enjoy. Civil Holdup focuses on the listener. Catchy and thought provoking vocals - addictive and memorable guitar riffs - powerful, creative bass lines - and intricate, thundering drums. Civil Holdup's songs have much to offer any listener and its live performances showcase strong musicianship and a hardworking stage presence. Music that is too simple can be bland and forgettable, while music that is overly complex can be hard to enjoy - Civil Holdup falls right in between those extremes.
Civil Holdup's past few years have shown monumental growth and potential. With the release of their debut 5-song EP in 2013, Civil Holdup gained strong local support, radio play, and earned the opportunity to perform and headline at renowned venues like the Trocadero and World Cafe Live. After two years of writing and over a year in the studio, Civil Holdup has taken the next step forward as a band by recording their first full length album, "Blind Man's Dream" - set to release September 11th, 2015. With it's first single, "Either Way", the album will further improve Civil Holdup's prominence within the Philadelphia local rock scene and beyond - all born from a basement rehearsal space doubling as a brewery.
Spoken Life is a solo Acoustic Rock project based out of the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. This project was started by Anthony Irvin in February 2012. Having been a dedicated musician for over 10 years, he takes much pride and heart into his musical endeavors. Anthony wanted to pursue this project for a while now, and when the time came around, he was excited to finally sit down and start writing his own music. After going through two different genre type bands throughout the last couple years, he started to compose his own acoustic songs and Spoken Life was born. Anthony longed to write music that could touch people in many ways and to reassure his listeners that whatever situations you encounter in your life, to keep hope and have faith.
