Weyerbacher Happy Hour Tap Takeover
Weyerbacher Brewing Company was founded in 1995 by Dan and Sue Weirback. In the beginning, Dan was an avid homebrewer and big fan of the blossoming new craft beers that were hitting the market. One weekend in late 1993 while vacationing in Vermont, Dan and Sue toured the Long Trail brewery, back when it was in the basement of an old mill. It was Sue who suggested they begin brewing their own beer, and nearly two years later, Weyerbacher Brewing Company was born in a livery stable in downtown Easton, PA. Launched in August of 1995, the original concept was to make some mainstream microbrews, like a Pale Ale and ESB. They brewed their first big beer, Raspberry Imperial Stout, in 1997. The following year they brewed Blithering Idiot Barleywine and also began brewing Belgian beers, like Merry Monks’ Ale (originally called “Belgian Style Tripel”). This was the time when their path was set. They decided, “Let’s make full-flavored high-quality brews for a discerning customer.”
For a short period of time they also ran a brewpub, until they outgrew the space they were in due to growing retail sales and demand. Once they settled into their new space and were no longer in the restaurant business, they were able to concentrate on improving the quality of their brews and packaging. They’ve since also expanded their sales territory to 18 states including most of the Atlantic Coast states in addition to Ohio, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Weyerbacher is continually trying to add new equipment and new people to the organization to help continue to make great, flavorful beers!
