Born and raised in the Fillmore District of San Francisco, Andre Nickatina has been a Hip-Hop/Rap luminary since the release of his critically acclaimed debut, "The New Jim Jones." A favorite at public venues and on college campuses, Andre Nickatina continues to sustain a loyal fan-base, while engaging new supporters throughout North America. Nickatina's classic stage show combined with his rare interviews, maintains his mystery and unique musicianship that has spanned two decades.
The longevity of Nickatina speaks for itself. An award-winning MC and producer (2005 Bay Area Artist of The Year / Album of The Year for "Bullets"), Nickatina's vision has expanded beyond the 18 albums (and hundreds of thousands of sales) that he has executive-produced. Also, a diverse artist, Nickatina has gained critical acclaim for his work and vision as a filmmaker, with more than seven films to his credit as either a director, co-director, executive producer, producer or actor.
Changing his name from Dre Dog to Andre Nickatina in 1996, he transformed his career to a plateau that has allowed him to create and develop an entirely new fan base with his original flow, distinct voice and lyrical explorations that few other MCs have displayed an ability to achieve. His third album, "Raven In My Eyes," marked Nickatina's shift as an artist and expanded his audience to the wildly enthusiastic college crowds that praise him with regular sellouts from coast to coast. In 2008 Nickatina completed a timeless masterwork that paired he and his friend, Mac Dre (R.I.P.) together with the new classic, "A Tale of Two Andres. "
Nickatina's business acumen is as sharp and honorable as his presence on stage. Nickatina's vision as an artist has been admired by many of his peers as he is seen as one of the last Bay Area Legends who was not only present during the golden-era of Hip-Hop, but one of the few artists who has helped Hip-Hop grow and who has remained ultimately relevant with each successive album he has released.
Without saying so, Nickatina has had his finger on the pulse of what is raw, uncut and capable of capturing the mind and ears of listeners. Never one to follow or ride trends, Andre Nickatina is a rare breed of artist… one of the last original trend setters. Nickatina does not do what the people want… rather the people want to know what Dre will do next.
DJ True Justice
True Justice, aka The Man of Steel, has been a pioneer in the Bay Area Hip Hop scene since 1989. In an era where real deejaying skills have become scare, True Justice holds the torch, and is known for tearing clubs down in every city and every town. No stranger to hustle and showmanship, he comes from the era of constantly packing the vinyl crates and being out on the road!
True's ambition is to showcase the amount of talent that he has amassed in the last 17 years in Northern California, better known as The Yay Area. While still in high school, True Justice was a hip hop dancer for the Oakland, CA super-group A.P.G. (Action Packed Gangstas), and at the age of 16, he found himself doing concerts with the likes of Digital Underground, Capital Tax, Paris and K-Cloud -- while witnessing first hand the birth of the independent hip hop game in the culturally rich Bay Area.
From 1989-91, True studied A.P.G.'s master DJ J-Cutt as he amazed crowds night after night with his show-stealing solo routines with two turntables, a mixer, and two copies of the same record. When he arrived in Berkeley in 1992, True Justice (then known as DJ Skillz), traded his patent leather shoes for two Technic turntables and a Gemini mixer. For years you could see True selling cassette tapes on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, CA alongside favorites of today: Living Legends, Saafir, and the Hobo Junction.
In 1996, True formed the All Purpose DJs with Lord Takim, DJ Styles, and DJ Lex. That same year he began a career of show deejaying, first with Dream Nefra, and then later with Mic T, AceyAlone & Abstract Rude, Aesop and Planet Asia. He is currently Guerrilla Funk's resident DJ, handling tour duties with Paris and T-K.A.S.H. He also works with Enzyme Dynamite of The Bayliens. As a duo True Justice and DJ Lex released Volume 1 in 1997, Aural Sex Volume 2 in 1998, AP2K in 2000, and Pound Fa Pound in 2004. All releases quickly became local classics. The All Purpose DJs have excited crowds with icons such as Slick Rick, Biz Markie, Notorious B.I.G., Xzibit, Phife, Keak Da Sneak, Above The Law, and E-40.
In 2001, True and Lex toured in Osaka, Japan, garnering legions of fans of their dexterity on the wheels of steel. A bonafide student of showmanship, True continued to hone his craft, and in 2007, True Justice dropped his self-titled debut album and joined forces with The Bayliens -- "Aliens from The Bay" -- and dropped the CD Crop Circles in the same year.
From 2007 to 2011, True Justice toured worldwide with The Bayliens, Living Legends, Mistah F.A.B., Zion I, Paris, The Alkaholiks, Jeru The Damaja, Lords Of The Underground, The Beatnuts, Onyx, Redman and EPMD. Now, in 2012, he is poised to release his sophomore effort, The Man of Steel, on Guerrilla Funk, with production assistance by Paris and featuring Planet Asia and The Bayliens.
Ryan Joyce, better known as MND is becoming a well established artist with extraordinary talents. Hailing from Northern California, and influenced by a mixture of music legends from Hip Hop and Reggae, MND brings a new diverse style to the world of music. Having released his debut project titled Game On, accompanied by a music video for the single titled "Summertime" in early 2013, and working with well known Producer/Sound Engineer Danny Badorine (Production Credits: John Mayer, The Eagles, Katie Perry), this artist has taken his quality work to a whole new level.
Gaining exposure for the past two years has been anything but a challenge. MND has shared the stage with big names such as Andre Nickatina, Traxamillion, Mac Mall, Keak Da Sneak, Mistah Fab, Baby Bash, San Quinn, Phillthy Rich and IrieFuse while heavily promoting his debut Mix-tape throughout the West Coast. Now, MND is working on his next release "Game Time Vol.2" which features popular acts such as Berner and Beeda Weeda. This project is well on its way and will be released mid-summer, 2013.
Aside from utilizing internet promotion through multiple online radio/music sources, MND has made appearances across radio stations in the region and landed meetings with 106KMEL (Top 5 Hip Hop and RnB stations nationwide) as well as Interscope Records. This summer, MND will be touring through Northern California and Seattle while preparing for his next release. Events in Humboldt County, Petaluma, Oakland, Salinas, Los Angles and Washington have been planned and ready to execute.
