A native of Boulder, Colorado Janet Feder is most widely known for pioneering composition for prepared guitar. She has been featured on numerous recordings, radio programs, and film scores.
Solo projects include Songs with Words (2012), Ironic Universe, a CD & DVD featuring Fred Frith (AdHoc Records/USA 2006), and Speak Puppet (ReR Recommended Records/UK 2001), as well as many compilations for Zerx Records (Albuquerque, NM; 1999-07). She also appears on 156 Strings produced by Henry Kaiser for Cuneiform Records (USA, 2002) and Nevermetaguitar produced by Elliott Sharp for Clean Feed Records (Portugal, 2010), both featuring works of the most innovative guitar players worldwide today.
Feder's most recent album, Songs With Words, was recorded in 5.1 Surround Sound and is currently available on both vinyl and SACD. Deeply layered, textured and intimate, the recording features Janet's signature prepared guitar compositions accompanying her voice.
Janet teaches extensively in the United States and tours both solo and with her duo cowhause (with Colin Bricker, live electronics) from both coasts of the U.S. to the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Austria and Israel. She performs and collaborates with a thoroughly diverse landscape of great musicians including Fred Frith, Nels Cline, Henry Kaiser, Bill Frisell, Elliott Sharp, Mike Keneally, Bryan Beller, Amy Denio, Chris Cutler, Mike Johnson/Thinking Plague, Susie Asado, Nikmat Hatraktor, Paolo Angeli, Wu Fei, Thomas Dimuzzio, Tatsuya Nakatani and Erin McKeown.
