Hot on the heels of a move to Los Angeles from their former home of Brooklyn, Harper Blynn continue to turn heads with their soaring brand of rock. Bucking a growing trend in modern live music, the band avoids the use of prerecorded tracks and auto-tuned vocals, instead relying on their instruments and voices to generate their epic soundscapes. After making albums with legendary producers David Kahne (Paul McCartney, The Strokes), Malcolm Burn (Emmylou Harris) and John O’Mahony (Metric, Coldplay), Harper Blynn have been busy working on their forthcoming full-length, as well as cowriting and playing on Sara Bareilles’ new album The Blessed Unrest. TV shows like Revenge, The Vampire Diaries, House of Lies and Pretty Little Liars have all taken note and featured the band’s music in the past year. Rounded out with upcoming tour dates in the fall of 2013 with Bareilles and One Republic, Harper Blynn show no signs of slowing down.
Act As If
Peter Verdell started his career as an A&R rep for Drive-Thru Records during the pop-punk revolution of the early-mid 2000’s, an era which saw the label propel bands like Something Corporate and New Found Glory to mainstream success. Verdell decided to leave the label and begin recording his own music, and in May 2010 he released his debut LP There’s a Light under the name Act As If. Songs from There’s a Light were featured on TV shows spanning ABC, CBS, MTV, and IFC, and the album was featured as “New & Noteworthy” by iTunes music & “Fuseworthy” by Fuse TV. Additionally, Apple placed the song "About Saying & Meaning Goodbye" in its OS X Lion demo video.
After the release of There’s a Light, an official band lineup formed, consisting of Peter Verdell [vocals, guitar], Diego de la Rosa [drums], J. David Carrera [guitar], and Sara Lindsay [keys, vocals].
Act As If recently released a new 4-song EP entitled The Iron Is Hot, which has received attention from buzzworthy blogs including Kings of A&R, Kick Kick Snare, and Buzz Bands LA. The song "Oh My My" has been getting airplay on The World Famous KROQ FM from DJ / taste-maker Kat Corbett, and the video for the song was premiered on MTV.com.
With Thorcraft Cobra, Canadian cold meets California cool. Billy and Tammy first met in previous projects while they were on the same label–the now defunct, but influential, Permanent Press Recordings. The two musicians always hatched plans to record together and, after a prolonged gestation (while Tammy toured the world and recorded with brothers Ron and Russell Mael, aka Sparks), Thorcraft Cobra finally came into being.
The debut Thorcraft Cobra full-length, COUNT IT IN is slated for release on January 8, 2013. The release will be on the Plaza Bowl Records & Tapes imprint, with distribution thru RedEye in the US and Outside in Canada!
The lead single from the record, COUNT ME OUT, hit iTunes, Amazon and eMusic on Oct 30. The song has had tremendous success at specialty radio, getting spins all over America and charting at #9 on the Alternative Specialty charts (KKBB) and #41 on the FMQB top 200 Submodern chart.
The COUNT ME OUT video was also released on Oct 30, and can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgR1qubMiVY&feature=plcp
The COUNT IT IN album features guest performances from some of the band's friends including Russell Mael (Sparks), Steve McDonald (Redd Kross), Mahsa Zargaran (Big Black Delta, Omniflux, Sabrosa Purr) and Will Love (Sabrosa Purr)
