Dynamic. How better to describe Kinetix, a band whose most recent album Let Me In hit #47 on the iTunes Top 200 Rock Charts and yet just wrapped separate national tours with hip hop darlings Flobots and Australian roots-rock kings Beautiful Girls, not to mention performing late night sets at a slew of summer festivals? ‘Let Me In’ certainly plays like a byproduct of a unique career trajectory, managing to maintain a fresh approach while smoothly transitioning between energetic rock and carefully crafted pop. Hot on the heels of their new album, a free acoustic show release and a packed Fall tour, Kinetix looks to be even more potent in the coming months. Already renowned for their performances, it’s easy to call Kinetix in 2011 a “must-see” live act. Simply put, they’re the type of band that reminds you why it’s fun to let loose.
Kinetix’s rise from their humble Denver roots into a nationally touring band is the result of talent, enthusiasm and a lot of hard work. Formed at the Lamont School of Music at Denver University, Kinetix was originally meant as a vehicle to blow off steam and play music at weekend hangouts. However, their popularity during those early days became a campus phenomenon that quickly outgrew the limited confines of house parties and campus events. Within two years of forming, Kinetix was selling out local theatres and collecting invites to summer festivals nationwide. Encouraged by the warm response, the band set out to establish themselves nationally and have been building their fanbase ever since.
The eleven tracks of Let Me In were engineered and mixed by Jason Livermore at the reputably rock and roll Blasting Room Studios and mastered by Chris Gehringer of Sterling Sound. The new album builds upon the band’s reputation as a live tour de force, but now heralds the rock quintet as studio musicians capable of creating an album worthy of mainstream radio play.
Gravity A exhilarates New Orleans' rich musical tapestry with their fresh, dynamic energy and innovative sound, best exhibited in their 2013 studio release "New Beginnings". The quartet has been a New Orleans staple since 2004, but it wasn't until the addition of its newest members and ultimately the release of "New Beginnings" that has lead to heavy US touring. Tours in 2013 and 2014 featured stops at venues like Cervantes in Denver, Boom Boom Room in San Francisco, and Nectar's in Vermont. Gravity A has developed a unique sound inspired by the soulful funk and second-line fusions of their hometown, yet still draws heavily upon the eclectic possibilities of electronic progressions. Gravity A has become the torchbearer for the city's late night soundtrack featuring the unmistakable sound of New Orleans funk, tight drum n' bass breaks and intoxicating trance. The band's unique sound is highly dependent upon the musicians' passion for live instrumentation and improvisation, which often lends itself to a rambunctious adventure grooving through sunrise.
Most recently, the band has gained even more popularity among fresh ears and long time fans alike after performing a high energy Talking Heads Tribute set at a Jazz Fest late night at the Howlin Wolf in New Orleans. It's popularity quickly sparked a handful of additional performances on the road, including The Fox (Boulder, CO) and The 710 Cup in July 2014. The band plans on making an online release of their tribute set, performed August 29, 2014 at a packed to capacity Tipitina's in New Orleans.
A delightful blend of high energy rock, dance and funk offers a look into the new generation of musicians and fans. Originally from Iowa City, IA the entire band relocated to Minneapolis, MN in Oct 2011. Dead Larry spreads a positive message to bring out a renewed feeling of passion and hope for anyone who listens. A group of 4 guys in their twenties, Dead Larry loves to party and encourages the crowd to get up and moving. With a vast range of influences it's hard to pin down the sound, but comparisons have been made to Modest Mouse, The Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin and MGMT. Dead Larry encourages a community of friends and family (known as "The Family of Funky Friends") that continues to support and grow with Dead Larry throughout their adventures. Touring relentlessly across the country (averaging 100-150 shows a year), Dead Larry is a force to be reckoned with.
"An all too short set by psychedelic funk pop band, Dead Larry, from Iowa City, Iowa, was all I needed to realize where the great music truly was. Lead singer/rhythm guitarist Mark McGuiness screamed his lyrics with rock 'n' roll conviction to the raw and dark simplicity of the musical compromise that is the rest of the band. Each member worked their musical niche to create something greater than themselves that is Dead Larry." - Travis Beck (The Daily Nebraskan) on Dead Larry's set during 10,000 Lakes Festival 2008.
"Dead Larry’s music combines psychedelic rock, funk and pop to create a non-stop party." - Tim Gavin (The Daily Iowan)
"Dead Larry is amazing! They have that rare combination of incredible diversity and substance, while still dropping funky beats that keep your booty moving!" - Mark Murphy, WookieFoot
