Kuf Knotz has been making a name for himself as a member of some of Philly's most cutting-edge alternative rap crews; first as a founding member of the BurnDown All-Stars, and more recently, his own group, hip-hop/soul collective The Hustle. Knotz, a.k.a. Ty Green, is now making his solo career top priority, and with Boombox Logic, he's created a diverse, far-reaching collection that underscores the rapper's eclectic tastes.
Brian Owens’ debut Moods And Messages is vibrantly vintage—aesthetically it follows the groove gospel of classic 1960s and 1970s soul but it has a very “in the now” emotionality. Brian’s vocals are a revelation—purposeful and passionate—he remains his own stylist while recalling the sensual urgency of Marvin Gaye, the comforting falsetto of Curtis Mayfield, and tender grit of Sam Cook.
Watermelon is a funk rock outfit stationed in New York City. The band’s unique sound is formed from the dynamic interplay of two singers and a driving power trio, producing a sound that has been called raucous rock ‘n’ roll with a punch of funk and undertones of hip hop. While the band’s spirit can be traced to the revelry and comradery of Sly and the Family Stone, the band does not shy away from such diverse influences as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Funkadelic, and Talking Heads. Seeking to break down all barriers with the audience, Watermelon lives for the live experience.
Introducing the Japanese soul music singer Nao Yoshioka. Known to bring tears to the eyes of US churchgoers, Nao has returned from New York to Japan like a comet.
After reaching the final stage of the coveted McDonald's GospelFest and advancing to the Top Dog round at The Apollo Theater, in New York, a dream for most young soul singers, Nao is continuing to take her career to a new level within Japan’s booming soul music scene.
The lure of her music in not about technology but the way it's refined and home polished which allowed Nao to debut as a professional vocalist at the age of 16 years old.
On her arrival back in Tokyo, Nao was given the opportunity to record the first original single for SWEET SOUL RECORDS titled "Make the Change." The single was featured on SWEET SOUL's compilation album "WORLD SOUL COLLECTIVE VOL.1" featuring other talented soul artists from around the world.
The time is at hand for this talented young soul singer to spread her wings and take flight.
