"Queen of Swing" Norma Miller interviewed by Shani Jamila followed by The Hot Sardines

"Queen of Swing" Norma Miller Symposium followed by The Hot Sardines
Lindy hop pioneer Norma Miller will return to her native Harlem to conduct a live interview including screening of excerpts of the self titled Queen of Swing documentary. This evening will offer a rare, personal glimpse into the Savoy Ballroom era of the 30's and 40's as Miller shares personal testimony of a rich artistic treasure.
Immediately following, participants will have an opportunity to recreate their own ballroom experience with great music provided by the The Hot Sardines.
The Hot Sardines is a hot jazzy band that harkens back to the days of Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Alberta Hunter. The high energy, swing stimulating music (the band includes a tap dancer whose feet count as two members of the rhythm section) conjures the sounds and spirit of a by-gone era, while remaining relevant to the current beat of today's rich jazz scene. The Sardines are authentically rooted in the American pastime of jazz, though their selections are intertwined with French influences via their front woman, who was born and raised in Paris.
Members of the Sardines collective have worked with a genre-hopping roster that includes Rufus Wainwright, Sufjan Stevens, Lauren Ambrose, Sondre Lerche, Vetiver, Of Montreal, Nicholas Payton, Kurt Elling, Branford Marsalis, the New York and Jerusalem Philharmonics, Slavic Soul Party and the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra.
