“Houston’s only Celtic metal band” is how critic The Houston Press describes Blaggards style of Irish rock. The four-piece band defines their genre as “stout Irish rock”. Traditional Irish music mixed with rock n’ roll.
Growing up in Dublin, Ireland, singer Patrick Devlin was raised listening to Irish rebel music and heavy metal bands such as Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. In 1994, Devlin moved to Houston and ten years later formed Blaggards with Turi Hoiseth, Chad Smalley, and Brian Vogel.
Blaggards have toured both nationally and internationally, and performed at South by Southwest music festival in 2008 in which they were the only Celtic-based act on the schedule.
Since, Brittney Johnson has been appointed as the new fiddler and Michael McAloon on violin, leaving Devlin and Smalley the only original members but that doesn’t stop Blaggards from performing for loyal fans around the world.
