19 YEAR HISTORY!
Since 1994, The Peoples’ Festival & Tribute to Bob Marley has welcomed more than 100,000 families from around the country in unity and one love to the first place outside of Jamaica that the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley ever called home: Wilmington Delaware. It is where his family resided, worked and attended school as Bob Marley rose to world stardom with his message of peace, unity and “One Love”. At the request of his (now late) Mother Cedella Marley Booker, the Tribute to Bob Marley took root just blocks from where the home he bought her still stands.
Over the last two decades, Richie Havens, KRS 1, Damien “Junior Gong” Marley, Stephen Marley, Kymani, Ziggy, Julian Marley, Kinto Sol and Morgan Heritage are just a few among the global superstars and Grammy Award winning artists who have graced our stage. This year the momentum continues with world-renowned reggae artist Luciano. The event approaches its monumental 20th anniversary just over a year from now!
The 19th Annual Peoples Festival 4PEACE & Tribute to Bob Marley is presented by Delaware non-profit, One Village Alliance to foster peace, love and unity through music and the arts in the spirit of the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley, OM. The event unites a collaboration of artists, agencies and businesses united for peace and unity throughout Wilmington. Lead partners include: World Cafe Live at the Queen; KISS 101.7; Spark Magazine.
New at this year’s Peoples Festival 4PEACE & Tribute to Bob Marley, the Peace Pavilion brings a united front of organizations that offer services to parents, youth and families together and empower festival-goers with information and opportunities to combat violence, impact communities through volunteerism and keep youth engaged in positive activities. The Peace Pavilion is a lifeline to bring support and awareness to individuals who are seeking help for troubled situations and don’t know where to turn. A Call to Action among agency partners, businesses and schools is in full effect! A city-wide effort to link a Peace Chain for Change is now underway with over 50 locations to design your “Peace Link” with a message of love and unity… The chain will connect the city from Bob Marley’s family home on 24th and Tatnall Streets to the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday July 27th for a Genius World Record opening of the 19th Annual Peoples Festival 4PEACE & Tribute to Bob Marley!
The beautiful Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park and Delaware River (nestled between the Amtrak Train Station and Wilmington Bus Depot) create a perfectly accessible venue for this family event. Youth of all ages enjoy arts, literature, drumming, spoken word, face painting and activities at our famed Children’s Village.
