Walker & Royce
Sam Walker and Gavin Royce met ten years ago at a loft party in Brooklyn: it was packed, the floor was sticky and house music was blaring out of the system. They fast became friends, though the studio was not their first endeavor together. They both had internships for Studio Distribution, threw parties together and shared a few drinks. Their dedication to the dance music scene was evident and they both were looking for ways to be involved.
In the following years Sam spent nearly all his free time in the studio. This gave him a lot of time to hone his skills and push him to eventually concentrate on production and engineering full time. Meanwhile, Gavin was sweating it out in the local NYC DJ scene, playing everything: weekly parties, one-offs, coorporate events. All this let him really learn what crowds want from a DJ and to be able to adapt to any situation.
In 2011 the pair found themselves again working together, this time at NYC's house stronghold, Nervous Records. Sam was helping with engineering and mastering, while Gavin was there to help do A&R for the daughter label Nurvous. Since all this exciting new music was being put in front of them, they decided to give remixing a shot. The reaction was immediately well received, and at that moment the pair knew that they really had something special. Since then they have released records on Crosstown Rebels, Glasgow Underground, Dither Down, Pets Recordings and more. As of late 2012 they also have releases forthcoming on Moda Black, Playperview and Electronique Digital.
Justin "J-Boogie" Boland is an American DJ/producer from San Francisco, California. He was born in September 1973. He is signed to the Om Records label, and has 2 full length albums as well as several mix CDs
Repping Faction Sound Crew and leading online Caribbean lifestyle magazine LargeUp.com, Deejay Theory continues to push the DJ / producer role forward in his homebase of San Francisco, CA and throughout the world. Creating music all his life and now a key player in the explosive tropical bass movement, Theory has a natural strength for flipping a broad range of material, putting his signature touch on everything from Busy Signal to Alex Clare to Santana. Think dancehall meets dance music, bass meets soul, turntablism meets club, tropical disco meets the pool, a nd we're literally just getting warm.
Years of dedication and passion brought Theory to where he is today, and the love and labor shows. S upport has been massive with a schedule of US and international bookings and some of the top DJ's, producers and tastemakers in the industry sharing Theory's work on global airwaves, stages and blogs. Day in and day out, from the studio to the club, you know you're getting strictly quality from this dude every time, and although you're never really sure what to expect, the product, skills and devotion remain the same...and the people are ready for more.
Born and raised in the San Francisco, Bay Area, Ca. Papa Lu had the chance to absorb all styles of music from Hip Hop to house as an adolescent. His first passion was with Hip Hop. As soon as he graduated from High School he dove right into the business of throwing Hip Hop shows at a venue called The DNA Lounge. He worked with some of the most classic artists of the true school era like Digable Planets, Digital Underground, Gang Starr, Kool Keith, Dj QBert, Grand Wizord Theordore, and many more. During that time period several house music pioneers like Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Dj Sneak, Heather, Colette, etc were making their waves at that same venue and that’s where Papa Lu had learned to love house music. Becoming a house music aficionado Papa Lu had then decided to make the transition into producing quality house music events. He still to this day produces a party named Night Moves at Monarch SF and other events as well at a few of the other fine established clubs of San Francisco. He’s worked with artists such as Danny Daze, Jimmy Edgar, Dennis Ferrer, Poolside, Amine Edge & Dance, Doctor Dru, Walker & Royce, Lazaro Casanova, Claptone, Juan MacLean, Fur Coat, Crazy P, Noir, Moon Boots, John Tejada, J Boogie, Deejay Theory, Pacific Disco, etc. In the process of becoming deeply involved and passionate with finding new cutting edge artists to book Papa Lu cultivated himself as a quality dj opening and closing for the artists named above and is now a commonly known dj in SF's house scene. For Papa Lu, his career as an innovative house dj has recently started and is budding well. His production with Bryan Boogie (LifeSF/ 2nd Sunday) is in progress and is anticipated to gain solid traction.
