There are very few things that can be called timeless. In music, and genres in particular, the word timeless isn't used very often. The industry is consumed by an ever-expanding roster of bands looking to create the next new sound and digital technologies flooding out traditional methods. Most music produced today is far from timeless.
But, every now and then you come across a group that is influenced by
those Select Few groups that made the cut and produced something
truly lasting. The New Brunswick-based alternative indie rock group,
Sink Tapes, is one of them. Taking inspiration from Bands such as The
Velvet Underground, Television, and The Replacements, It doesn't take
long to hear the classic undertones in Sink Tapes' music. Melodic, crisp
tracks flow effortlessly, with touches of early '90s Alt-rock and late
'70s pop sensibility. Modern rock elements anchor the group's sound
and give their music a defining characteristic as not something repeated, but something innovative.
Sink Tapes released their debut album Same Strange Dream in late 2010, which was entirely recorded, produced and released by the band with- out any outside effort. A second full length, Please Touch is slated to drop in December of 2012 as a "name your own price" digital download alongside a 3-song 7" inch vinyl. Like their first release, Please Touch will be released independently. The group already has a brand new
set of tracks in the works, and plans to release yet another album in the coming year. Performing at venues all over the tri-state area, from basements to established venues, the group has laid a solid foundation for breaking into the indie rock scene as a promising and thriving act.
