With a rooted affinity for black-leather noise, synth-strewed weirdness and layered, wall-of-sound pop, Young Boys is a story that crisscrosses the continent. Formed by Oakland-bred David "Legs" McDaniel who, after traveling across the country, guitar in hand, looking for love and a place to call home, hooked up with fellow slimers Ethan Miller and a Minneapolis-bred player Lee Lichtsinn to solidify ranks in New York City.
Now knee-deep in NY grime and projected through technicolor static, Young Boys come armed with a pair of out-of-tune guitars, a drum machine and a certain, crunchy cohesion. The trio's slobbering stance on classic garage pop balladry has awarded them gigs alongside Crocodiles, Sleigh Bells, Dengue Fever, Ex Cops and SISU and gathered praise from the likes of NME and The Village Voice.
Holloweyed is honored to release Young Boys' debut longplayer; the six-song wave of growing deconstruction, New York Sun follows the group's 2010 split with California noise enthusiasts FM Face for Digitalis and a 7" of "Bring Em Down" for Chicago imprint, Rococo Records.
New York Sun will be issued on vinyl (w/ download card) and digital formats on February 26th.
Suburban Living (Record Release Party)
Suburban Living aka Wesley Bunch recently relocated to Philadelphia from Virginia Beach, VA. Bunch released the highly acclaimed EP, Copper’s Dream in 2012, followed by the “Always Eyes” 7” single in 2013 on Dialog Records. In the past year, Suburban Living has toured frequently up and down the East Coast, and made appearances at CMJ, SXSW and multiple festival dates in Japan. After which Bunch returned to Virginia Beach to record his self-titled debut record at EarthSound Studios with good friend and engineer Mark Padgett. With the full-length album, Suburban Living enters a new saga with a refined “Dream Pop” sound - darker, with a more personal lyrical approach.
Isadora is a band which came together in Brooklyn in 2012. The band consists of Aaron Mendelsohn (vocals, guitar), Ian Mellencamp (bass, vocals), Jesse Bilotta (drums, vocals), Nick Burleigh (guitar, violin), and Josh Rouah (keyboards, guitar, vocals).
The band began as a duo, writing dreamy, melodic pop tunes inspired by early Andrew Bird. The lineup grew and shrank, and grew again. The evolution in the lineup has inspired an evolution as well in the band's sound. They have arrived at a rich, textured sound, sometimes going purely on feel and sometimes highly composed.
Surprise is one of the touchstones of Isadora's sound - the band will set up a certain expectation but then deliver more fully on something else lurking beneath the surface. An explosive burst of rhythm shocks you out of a smoother introduction on their upcoming first release, "On the Rights," and takes you somewhere you'd never have expected.
Their first collection of songs will arrive in early 2013.
