Cave is a psychedelic drone band based in Chicago, Illinois consisting of keyboardist Rotten Milk, guitarist/organist Cooper Crain, bassist Dan Browning and drummer Rex McMurry. The band was formed in Columbia, Missouri in 2006, and has released two full-length albums, Psychic Psummer (2009) and Hunt Like Devil/Jamz (2008), and an EP on Drag City Records. Cave played the Pitchfork Music Festival in 2010. Cave was formed in 2006 as an informal collaborative project by Columbia, Missouri friends Cooper Crain, Dan Browning, and Rex McMurry, with Chicago native Rotten Milk. At the time, Crain and McMurry were also members of the now-defunct Missouri band Warhammer 48K. When Warhammer disbanded in 2008 the four began seriously writing and recording music together.
In 2008 Cave released their first full-length album Hunt Like Devil/Jamz on Permanent Records. The following year they released another album on Important Records, Psychic Psummer, which received a positive review from Pitchfork Media. In 2010 they released an EP on Drag City Records, Pure Moods, which was reviewed favorably by Pop Matters and garnered mixed reviews from Tiny Mix Tapes and Pitchfork.
Cave are considered part of the "Columbia Diaspora", a group bands with members from Columbia, Missouri who now reside in Chicago that includes Mahjongg and Lazer Crystal.
Cooper Crain has released material from his solo project Bitchin' Bajas on Permanent Records and works with other Chicago bands as an analog recording engineer.
Consistently one of the best live acts in Columbia over the past few years, Hott Lunch finally has recordings! Monster riffs, groovy as all hell bass lines and shout along vocals serve as the foundation to a sound that is equally influenced by the stoned-out sounds of Spacemen 3, the motorik drive of Kraut rockers like Can, the catchy Kiwi-pop of the Clean and the straight forward DIY rock-n-roll of the Ramones. Hard rockin, hook heavy jamz ready to rip open your noggin for a nice, refreshing dose of trepanation.

Fliight took off in late 2009, and is primarily a two man collaboration between Ted Sharp and Josh Cochran, though they often draft the help of others to bang a tambourine, sing, or charm the theremin. Both bandmates in groups like The Makeouts, The Pale Family, Highway Robbery and Cpt Captain, the two collaborate on Flight as a side project. It started in a shed as a two hour jam session with a running tape. This session resulted in a few tracks, one of which—Wirebird—made it onto the Yards and Gods Compilation Vol II released at the end of 2009.
Their sound pulls influences in from late 1960s and early 1970s krautrock bands like Ash Ra Tempel and Tago Mago era Can with some of the noise experiments of Faust. Songs have a stream of consciousness feel to them as Cochran and Sharp appear to share a brain that enables Cochran’s distortion washed guitar wails to groove amid Sharp’s lacerating percussion. However, unlike their German predecessors, Flight’s songs do not stretch ad infinitum. Rather, it makes an attempt to condense the usually sprawling genre for those with shorter attention spans. It’s digestible and deliciously krauty.
Nevada Greene is an instrumental quartet out of Columbia, MO founded in January 2013. The band’s sound blends gentle finger picking and twangy guitar pop melodies with a textural wash of reverb drenched drones and melancholy string orchestration to create a pleasant, midwestern brand of ethereal cacophony. Paired with cinematic projections sourced from vintage family video archives, Nevada Greene's live performance explores notions collective memory and nostalgia.
Nostalgia (From the Greek nostos- a return to home and algia -longing) is a longing for a place and time that no longer exists or never has existed. It is a sentiment of loss and displacement but also a romance with one’s own fantasy. Originally thought of as a curable disease, doctors believed opium and open air could take care of nostalgic symptoms. While this practice has fallen out of fashion, one can never be too cautious and we recommend taking pre-emptive measures for an optimal listening experience.
