For the past three years, the Denver based quintet Whiskey Tango has been motivating Colorado crowds to move their feet with their high energy shows and high octane attitude. This Bluegrass band has grass roots, and in the winter of 2012 they emerged from their basement studio with their debut album Groggy Mountain Mornings. Capturing the rawness of the band, as well as their tenacious tone and attitude, this album reeks of wild-west whiskey fueled thoughts and has a cornucopia of sounds that may surprise you. This band isn't just Bluegrass, it’s “foot stomping slamgrass.”
Formed in 2009 within Denver’s Jamband scene, Whiskey Tango embraces sounds from many genres and brings it all to a boil with mind blowing live improvisation. For 52 weeks straight, Whiskey Tango had a standing Tuesday night gig at Denver’s Jamband headquarters, Quixote's True Blue, and “Tango Tuesdays” became a fixture of the Denver scene. That year shaped Whiskey Tango into a band on a mission to get their music heard by a wider audience and eventually led the band to trim their line-up down to five core members.
While they are the first to admit there is no way a studio recording can capture the energy of their explosive live show, Groggy Mountain Mornings showcases the bands diversity. The album features elements of Bluegrass,
Country, Rock, Funk, Reggae and Psychedelia-woven together into one seamless collection of songs. Unanimous love for The Grateful Dead just may well be the unifying thread that holds the Whiskey Tango tapestry together and their love of “Space” left no space unfilled.
All lovers of traditional Bluegrass as much as The Grateful Dead, this band will satisfy hippies, hillbillies, traditionalists and listeners with a thirst for something new. It was that fresh perspective that caused RELIX Magazine to seek out Whiskey Tango and invite them to include the Groggy Mountain Mornings track “Annalisa” on the December/January RELIX CD sampler.
On the drums is Luke who can play with a jazzy finesse or really smack the skins when need be. He sings a killer harmony vocal and takes the lead on occasion. Rounding up the rhythm section is Bill whose booming, bouncing base lines give Whiskey Tango their funkiness. With the best Bluegrass voice in the band he sings harmony and lead vocals as well. Zac picks on acoustic guitar and is a dynamic player, switching effortlessly from rhythm to lead guitar. Keyboardist Nate sings and writes many of the original songs. His keys add the funky dance feel to Whiskey Tango. Matt adds a virtuosic element to Whiskey Tango with his blistering banjo lines and complex melodies. His deep understanding of music theory and structure is evident in his songwriting. Whiskey Tango is a sum of its parts and each member shapes the music in a profound way.
In order to increase their fan-base, Whiskey Tango has begun to play up and down the front-range and lace the mountain towns with their high energy, goodtime music. The future looks bright for Whiskey Tango as they branch out around Colorado and beyond, definitely a band to watch in the future.
In Due Time
Blaring horns. Funky rhythm section. Hot singers. And a room full of dancing people. In Due Time makes a groove so fat, it wears Al Roker’s old clothes, a jam so tasty, your grandma puts it in her ambrosia, and a beat so hot it makes Beelzebub sweat. The six piece Denver funk band consistently fills local music halls with fresh sounds and, more importantly, dancing people. Book In Due Time and you’ll see why: Music comes first. Boundaries get broken. And everybody, everybody is invited to come on in.

Drop Switch is a modern sound hailing from Denver, Colorado. Fusing hip-hop, rock and soul, it is their high energy level and uniquely fresh blend of styles that brings this group to the next level. A Denver non-profit, Helping Hands, had this to say about Drop Switch."This solid six-piece is representing Denver in a smooth and sophisticated way that will soon be turning heads."
These six musicians are set apart by their intricate original material laced with complex rhythmic subtleties. This group is led by the soulful bluesy voice of Emma Wallingford who can be compared to the likes of Adele. Along side is Sheldon "Logistixx" Valdez, giving the group a whole new dimension with his creative lyricism and rhythmic flow. The driving force is without a doubt the rhythm section led by the tight drumming of Collin Mcnellis. Zach Hislop’s bass lines perfectly sync with the punchy kick drum creating one tightly knit machine. The melodic fretwork by Alex Hawley and Chris Overlid tie everything together for one diverse, cutting edge group.
Through excellent musicianship and flavor, Drop Switch ensures that even the narrowest musical tastes will be satisfied. This is sure not to be the last time you hear of this up and coming group.

Tim Yunker & The Sound Junkies
Tim Yunker and Alex Buxton are Colorado Natives. They attended the same high school, but rarely associated with each other... Until 2008. Tim Yunker and Alex Buxton united to create a sound that can only be described as unique. The two performed throughout Colorado and recorded the album "Duck and Cover" in late 2009. It soon became obvious that the band wouldn't proceed much further without a drummer. Tim received an e-mail one day from Chris Winslow who claimed to know all of the duo's songs and was interested in the position. He's been the Sound Junkie drummer ever since. Coming from New Hampshire, Chris brought a powerful mix of east coast percussion to the project . Being an incredibly versatile drummer, Chris conceived a style all his own that can only apply to the Sound Junkie mission. The ever-expanding project aims to bring something entirely new to the entertainment industry, both audibly and psychologically. The new al bum "Microphones Don't Lie" has been recorded and will soon be released. Microphones do not lie, so pick up the album and see what they picked up.
