Some voices were just meant for each other. Jay Byrd and Lara Supan, with drummer Ben Potok, blend to make South Rail’s sound undoubtedly their own. Robust harmonies backed by solid songwriting and musicianship define the band’s original music, steeped in a fusion of authentic Americana and Rock and Roll.
The band’s upcoming EP is produced by the legendary Don Was (The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and more) and will be released in 2014. South Rail has built a reputation on the quality of their live performance, which is captured on the upcoming EP.
South Rail's sound is described by Vivian Wang in District Consonance as “part folk, part alt-country — think Neil Young meets Wilco meets Eva Cassidy.” Chris Richards said in the Washington Post, "[South Rail's] Jay Byrd and Lara Supan are simpatico co-pilots, threading these songs with honeyed vocal harmonies."
