Conspirator - Phish After Party!
The Flying Skulls, DJ Morale
444 Jessie St
San Francisco, CA, 94103
This event is 21 and over
As an outlet to further explore electronic music production, Conspirator was formed in 2004 by Aron Magner and Marc Brownstein (keyboardist and bassist for The Disco Biscuits), and DJ Omen.
After performing with some of the festival scene’s most notable live artists, the band solidified into a 4-piece touring lineup with the additions of Chris Michetti (RAQ), and KJ Sawka(Pendulum) in 2012. Conspirator had a phenomenal rise with the release of Unlocked – Live from the Georgia Theatre (April 2012, SCI Fidelity Records) and action-packed tours in 2011 and 2012 with groundbreaking performances at venues across the U.S. and festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Nocturnal Festival, Electric Forest Festival, Starscape Festival, Gathering of the Vibes, and CounterPoint Music Festival.
With their utmost experience and mastery of the craft, Conspirator pushes into 2013 with more raw power and drive than ever, starting with the release of their new EP Unleashed on January 29 followed by a 28 city U.S. tour.
Unleashed is a crystal clear demonstration of Conspirator’s heavy, electronically produced core coupled with a skillful and melodic homage to live instrumentation. Electronic rock sensibilities are gracefully smashed into jaw dropping, dance-floor shaking dubstep rhythms to create an effortless fusion of all things deep. This high-impact collision creates an all encompassing, energetic spectacle which will no doubt be used to shock their devoted crowds from coast to coast.
The Flying Skulls
Check your radar good citizens, that blip you see fast approaching is none other than The Flying Skulls, a nu-school production team that plays live improvisational dub-step, breaks, and electronic music! The group brings the future-soundz of the modern dance music studio and interpolates them through the filter of live improv. With an old school jazz ethos The Skulls combine their tightly-honed electronic and hiphop infused sonic orchestra in a most dirty and crunked-out way.
The Flying Skulls first started melting dance floors in April 2008. Originally the brainchild of Lowpro Lounge co-founder Jeff Wareham (J.Tonal) as a way to bring the precision of the recording studio to the dance floor. J.Tonal had been creating music and throwing events in the SF Bay Area for over 9 years, sharing billing with musicians such as DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, Shpongle, Ott, Jack Dangers from Meat Beat Manifesto, and UFO! Growing up in the foothills of Northern California, J.Tonal was forced at an early age to go in search of a different sound. After moving to LA and immersing himself in the Hip Hop and Electronic music scenes, he started producing in a style that crossed between those two genres. In 1999 he moved to SF and met up with James Christopher, founding the Lowpro Lounge, throwing over 200 events all over the world, and starting the innovative record label Lowpro Lounge Recordings. "The Skulls live is all crusher material. You’ve got a totally improv beat over here, a live bass line over here, and a funky lead in the middle with live re-sampling of the components... it really gives the listener a musical experience."
Straight dope on these Flying Skulls guys? They’re dirty. Dirty beats, dirty grimy low-end, mucked up distorted synthesizers, live syncopated beats. The Skulls distill these elements through their battle-tested mix interface into dancefloor-rending sets of huge beats with a cinematic depth meant for the very largest of soundsystems. Chromekids described their sound as, "A heavyweight collection of nasty synths, wobbly basslines and crunked out glitchy beats so dirty you'd swear they robbed their MPC players off a crack dealer."
Well known for serving up a crossbreed of indy dance, swampy bass and banging beats, Tom Hamilton, aka DJ Morale, hasn't stopped moving packed dance floors since he first emerged on the scene in 2007. Whether you catch his set at a large venue, inside a dark warehouse, at a packed bar or at a major festival, his beats guarantee that standing still is out of the question. Morale's ability to engage a wide variety of music lovers with his diverse, intriguing, and completely nasty performances has left a trail of nothing but crushed dance floors and sweaty ravers behind him. Fortunately, with residencies in both San Francisco and New York, his momentum doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon
