LA MADNESS is INDIE GRIND BLUES out of Minneapolis. With a signature style & live show reputation that "goes all the way," they have taken their local scene by the hair. With the release of their debut album entitled "Chances Are", produced/engineered by Bryan Mengy (New Medicine) & mixed/mastered by Colt Leeb (Soul Asylum), La Madness is set on going national and beyond with their new breed of indie rock, blues and alternative/grunge.
Soulful singer & guitarist Kurt Vatland, returned to Minneapolis via Southern California and Texas with great songs but no band. He then meets Berklee Music grad Riggs Kessler (lead guitar) becoming neighbors, while a flashy and heavy handed percussionist named Aaron Willey simultaneously enters the picture through mutual friends. Bass guitar filled out the sound with help of Seth Levine (will not accompany them on tour) and La Madness was born. Only three rehearsals later the band is in the famed Winterland Studios with producer and confidant Bryan Mengy recording their first song "She's a Devil". A few weeks later they opened for a national act at the Varsity Theater. From there they go on to on both sides of town to a consistently growing throng of 'Mad Fans'. La Madness next crosses a handful of state lines & performs an all original set at the Shannon Hoon Vigil to Blind Melon fans from around the globe, and is a hit. It is the first road trip as a band and also where the title of the debut album is coined from within a smoke filled gentleman's club late at night, like something out of a movie. They return home to a word of mouth that now has them performing to even bigger audiences, receiving raving reviews from press state wide and doing radio/television showcases. The band recently hosted Rock The Catwalk, a full on rock concert runway show featuring both West Cost and local designers, benefiting a local breast cancer charity. Due to it's success, Rock The Catwalk will be an annual event in downtown Minneapolis. La Madness also performed to a very receptive and ever popular Twin Cities Morning Show on KARE 11 that morning in promotion of the event. The internet and previous geographical residencies of both Kurt and Riggs has given rise to MAD FAN support apparent on both coasts and claims LA MADNESS as one of their own. People want this band.
La Madness has a mainstream allure & appeal with soul from a glittered rock bottom, a reputation that never disappoints and a dying hunger for the road. Find them online, request them, join them and become INDIE GRIND BLUES.
La Madness is a member of the Record Artists Guild of Los Angeles, CA.
The Jelly Project
Since its inception in late summer of 2010, The Jelly Project has been tirelessly writing, practicing, and recording, along with playing shows around the Twin Cities at various venues including the Kitty Cat Klub, Cause, and the Fineline. The band mixes the familiarity of classic rock acts like Janis Joplin and Black Sabbath with the groove and grunge of 90s bands, creating a sound that is undeniably Jelly.
“Angelica ‘Jelly’ Thomas is the vortex at the center of the recently formed Minneapolis rock foursome, The Jelly Project. Three dudes with at least two combined decades of basement jam sessions and facial hair accumulation set the table for this Jelly creature. She is impetuous and hyper, a mad teenager in a young woman’s body, but touched by some God of Song.’” (Justin Baker, Hometown Hustle). Pair this hypnotic songbird and the musical prowess of the gents behind her with St. Paul-based indie label Funk-It Records, and you’ve got one helluva rock outfit. The highly-anticipated spring 2012 release of the band's first full-length "Ugly Dirty" will leave the entire Twin Cities with an ear full of Jelly.
