Joella Deville

Referring to her own genre as raw-pop, Joella DeVille has a distinctive sound that blends harsh truths with pop sounds.
Biography
“…we were delighted to find another treasure in Joella DeVille. Part Grace Jones, part Lady Gaga, and 100% star, DeVille captivated the audience from the first note.” – Divastation.Com

Born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, Joella DeVille, birth name Joella Still, has been singing ever since she could talk. Her mom threw a violin in her hand at the mere age of 3, as playing at least one instrument was a requirement of her musical family.

At the age of 7 she gained an interest in playing the piano, and her mom allowed her to do just that. In addition to these two instruments, Joella took dance classes also starting at the young age of 4. Taking ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and hip hop for over a decade allowed her to teach her own classes at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, which is her alma mater.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Creative Writing. Joella enjoys writing poems, stories, and screenplays when she has time.

Referring to her own genre as raw-pop, Joella DeVille has a distinctive sound that blends harsh truths with pop sounds. She is an award-winning writer, choreographer, pianist, artist, and story-teller, who is unafraid to openly confront her flaws and fears, and share them with her listeners, with songs such as “Confessions of a Mistress,” and “Unfinished Business.” Her content is eclectic and explosive, as she is not confined to the “polite box” that female artists are placed into.

Instead, she chooses to talk about things that are close to home, such as her absentee father, her role as the side chick, sexuality, or simply being misunderstood by her peers. Joella has been featured on websites such as YouHeardThatNew, ThisIs50, and AllHipHop, and has performed at Southpaw, SOBs, Carolines, Sugar Ray’s, etc. where audiences have truly embraced the refreshing package that is Joella DeVille.

“Her performance was honest, high energy, and balanced pop with substance very well. I loved it.” – Southpaw Venue promoter

It is beyond clear that from the audience’s responses, lovers of music are currently craving a new sound, and a new image to look up to and look at, and Joella is the one who will fill that void, with her new EP’s, “Round 2,” release on February 18th.
