The Kami Lyle Trio
The Cutting Room will be presenting “The Kami Lyle Trio” featuring Kami Lyle, a singer- songwriter on piano, vocals and trumpet with Joey Spampinato (NRBQ) on bass & Tad Price on guitar to perform Kami’s new CD “Pictures by The Sea” on Wednesday, June 26th, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.
Kami’s first album, “Blue Cinderella,” produced by Hugh Padgham (Sting, Melissa Etheridge, Phil Collins) put her on VH1 with the single “Polka Dots” and was well-received by critics and fans alike. She and husband Joey Spampinato (NRBQ/The Spampinato Brothers) live on Cape Cod, Ma, where she released her second album, “Ten Songs,”. She is
currently finishing her third CD “Pictures by The Sea”
Recent compilations include co-writing “Stay with You” with Manu Katche, Third Round, ECM Records & produced by Manfred Eichman. Performed trumpet on Jim Stephenson, “Say Go” (Joey’s Song), trumpet on Buddy & Julie Miller, “Written in Chalk” (Long Time).
With a distinctive voice and unique style, this singer/songwriter, trumpet player/pianist has a powerful impact on audiences, leaving listeners spellbound with the musical potions she creates. Armed with pen, paper, and trumpet, Kami Lyle continues to brave a whole new path
with a highly impressive collection of self-penned songs. Whether lush and mysterious or playfully coy, this artist is a cool splash of water to any listener’s face.
A Kami show is another thing--she is captivating onstage, her tone and timing are world class. As a songwriter she is quite unto herself, and has a humor and a vision that is palpably unique. She has a jazzer's chops, and a knowledge of theory and harmony that puts her writing into a much different domain. The artist is an accomplished trumpet player, in the Chet Baker tradition. She has graced a number of other recordings with her horn, including Patty Griffin,
Ron Sexsmith, and NRBQ, and sung on several recordings of Jill Sobule and others where the MCA debut, “Blue Cinderella”, was a corporate launch, “10 Songs” is no more than a collection of demos, from Nashville and her current home on Cape Cod. But it's all there, most vocals
are first takes, the songs are undeniable, the players sublime--I don't miss the expensive production, personally. It's great, just as it is. By Frank Goodman of ”Pure Music”
“Blue Cinderella” “The result is a really outstanding album by a fully formed talent delivering her sophisticated jazzy songs in a memorable voice that is somewhere between Edie Brickell, Suzanne Vega & Ricki Lee Jones. Her songs can be witty, melancholy or insightful while delivering some particularly astute poetic imagery”. Weekly Album Review by George Graham
"Blue Cinderella" “Kami Lyle's debut album is a low-key jazzy record filled with lightly lyrical songs, illustrating that she is a singer-songwriter of great potential!” Allmusic by Rovi
