Grand Ole Echo with Mojo Monkeys

Grand Ole Echo

Mojo Monkeys

A band of 3 musicians who have backed up such notables as Lucinda Williams, Keith Richards, Norah Jones, Bruce Springsteen, Dwight Yoakum, Bonnie Raitt, June Carter Cash, MIke Ness, Eric Burdon, Nelly McKay, and so many more. These are stellar players, each with his own unique style that collide lovingly in mojo monkeys to create a musical gumbo, deeply rooted in the Louisiana bayou, but eclectic and and fearlessly adventurous. Their songs are soulful and authentic, with funny, provocative lyrics, and grooves that make you want to jump up and do the boogaloo. This is a project that comes out of their love for the music, and it shows.

Their songs have been heard in Sons of Anarchy, Parks and Recreation, One Tree Hill, Alias, Never Been Thawed. They've been heard on KCRW KXLU, AND KCSN radio. Their songs have been covered by Eric Burdon and Anne McCue.

Mojo Monkeys individually are some of Los Angeles' finest musicians. Together, the chemistry is phenomenal.

Drunk On Crutches

Drunk On Crutches left Eden for palm trees in the prairie. Left the pavement to amble on the grass. Wiped seaspray from denim and leather.

They dream of sultry bars echoing with songs and fights and broken bottles. They smell of cypress and eucalyptus. They feel like sand on velvet.

They make drunken phone calls at midnight to old friends. Drive with all the windows rolled down. Cling to a dark optimism.

Jennifer Whittenburg moved from rural Georgia to Los Angeles to work as a recording engineer. In the studio she works alongside producer/engineer and L.A. native Andrew Alekel. They have worked with such wide ranging artists as: Foo Fighters, No Doubt, Queens Of The Stone Age, Jack Johnson, Weezer, and Rush.

A range of guests appear alongside the band on their album People. Places. Things., including experienced studio musicians such as drummer Curt Bisquera (Elton John, Tom Petty, Whiskeytown) and keyboardist Rami Jaffee (The Wallflowers, Foo Fighters), as well as local L.A. favorites such as Brian Wright and Sally Jaye.

Drunk On Crutches have a sweet soul underneath that gritty carapace. On Sunday mornings, they go to the Unsullied Church of the Personal and the Poetic, and then spend the rest of the day drinking on the back porch.

The Coals

A six-piece folk band from Los Angeles, The Coals mix barroom bluegrass with brokenhearted ballads. LA Weekly called the band "a rare and beautiful thing to behold." Rooted in Jason Mandell's earthy baritone and elegant songwriting, The Coals have opened for Gillian Welch at Largo, shared the stage with Tim Easton, and in 2010 released their debut album, "Bring Your Love on Back," featuring guest performances by Sara Watkins and Patrick Park.
