Although they first presented themselves as Philadelphia’s answer to the deconstructed blues-rock sounds pioneered by Jack White and The Black Keys, Modern Colour expanded their sound by listening to hip-hop, neo-soul, Americana, and funk. They embraced these genres by working and performing with artists representative of each one. By the time they recorded their debut EP ‘Rally at the Summit’ in the Spring of 2012 they had already established themselves as a powerhouse band in the Philadelphia music scene. They did this by becoming one of the house bands for the Legendary Dobbs open jam sessions, as wells as opening for national touring acts. Their constant collaboration with other artists has led to a live sound that is full of sonic experimentation and the melding of genres.
Tanikka Charraé has worked with and recorded with superstars like Lauryn Hill and J. Cole. With her trademark dynamic vocals and sassy lyrics, she describes her sound as "edgy R&B"-the kind that's full of passion and pulls no punches-all to a hard-hitting beat. The young diva is also the star of her own fully produced Made-for-YouTube reality series "The Climb," documenting her rise in the music industry.
Selina Carrera is a prolific, stylistic vocalist, formerly signed to Columbia Records as a recording artist. Carrera's distinctive sound is a blend of Latin jazz and hip-hop, vocally. A futuristic lyricist too complex to be classified as a rapper, she fits under the title of MC, and is also a spoken-word poet. Like most great vocalists, Carrera began singing in her church choir at the age of eight, and has been professionally trained since the age of ten. Carrera's main musical influences are samba, salsa, jazz, funk, and hip-hop. A Philadelphia native, Carrera was both a student at the Girard Academic Music Program and a vocal major at the Creative and Performing Arts High School. A gifted scholar, she started writing and performing poetry at the age of thirteen in the tri-state area. After graduating in 2004, Carrera continued her studies at Penn State University, majoring in communications. Finding that West Chester University was a better fit for her, Carrera transferred there after two years at PSU, where she currently majors in creative writing and music. Recently, her hard work has been recognized not only locally, but also around the country. Carrera has been humbled by having the privilege of being managed by Chris Schwartz, co-founder of the renowned independent label, RuffHouse Records. RuffHouse was responsible for fostering such acts as Kriss Kross and The Fugees. Carrera is now hard at work producing her debut album. Growing up in the nineties, a time when music, predominantly hip-hop, was in its prime, Carrera has always been surrounded by artistry of various sorts. She was constantly on the underground scene amongst B-Boys, B-Girls, graffiti artists, musicians—young and old—DJs, and of course sneakers (she is an avid sneaker collector). Along with her musical career, Carrera is a strong believer in the legacy she wants to leave behind as a success story for the youth in her Philadelphia community. She recently created and co-founded an after school program called "The Lyrical Playground," designed to teach high school students the history of, as well as the various techniques and styles of spoken-word poetry. In the future, Carrera plans to open up three community art centers in her home town. Selina Carrera is blessed beyond words and feels completely satisfied with the way life is taking her. As a real musician she is definitely an artist on the rise and will be truly legendary.
Philadelphia native NeJcion has performed on several national platforms such as BET's 106 & Park, American Idol and Sunday Best. He began singing professionally at the age of 13 as part of boy group T.Y.M. (Talented Young Men) and hasn't stopped since. The Twenty Two Recordings/Fontana/Universal recording artist has amassed hit single and video releases such as "Lost In You" and "Countdown". With a debut release entitled "My Turn", the sky is the limit for this heartthrob.
