Matt's latest work, Strange Americans' full-length record A Royal Battle, is a marriage of his lyrical/creative process with the band's two-year musical coming of age. Released in June of 2012, the album has received favorable press, including 303 Magazine's review, calling A Royal Battle "one of the best local releases of the year." It has been featured on CPR Open Air, Radio Free Minturn and Fort Collins Public Radio KRFC 88.9FM. Look for more radio play across the state in the coming weeks.

In spirit, Matt values both the old and the new and incorporates elements of each into his music with equal consideration. Looking to past and present artists, he shares a fundamental, simple-minded aesthetic with singer-songwriters such as Ryan Adams and local musicians Nathaniel Rateliff and Gregory Alan Isakov, and in Strange Americans pulls from groups including My Morning Jacket, Dawes, Shovels and Rope, Monsters of Folk, Band of Horses, Wilco, The Jayhawks (Gary Louris), and The Band. In reviews Matt is also often compared to Bruce Springsteen.

Matt has performed at The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase 2011/2012, Denver Day of Rock 2011/2012, Faceman's Waltz 2012, Knew Year's Eve 2011, and has been featured on ABC Channel 7 News, as well as in Denver Westword magazine, GtoC Magazine, and on This Ain't No Cowtown (A Colorado Compilation CD) Volume 2. Either solo or with Strange Americans, Matt has shared the stage with local and national acts including The Knew, Glowing House, You, Me and Apollo, Jeff Rady, Jesse Manley, Emily Lewis of Blow the Vault, Anthony Ruptak, The Belle Jar, Yukon Blonde, Lee Avenue (members of Boulder Acoustic Society), The Swayback, Dead Man Winter (members of Trampled By Turtles), Cory Branan, The Fling, Nick Urata (of DeVotchKa), Air Dubai, Tonic, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Sister Hazel and Gin Blossoms. A Royal Battle was recorded with Grammy award-winning engineer John Macy and Strange Americans will be featured on an episode of Altitude TV's On Stage (airing begins July 3rd on Altitude TV).
