Join Brat Productions for a very special graduation party! This Spring, Brat's own Jess Conda doesn't just graduate from the Pig Iron School - she graduates right into the role of Brat Productions' sole Artistic Director! So show your support for theatre that rocks - and throw a little aid our way - as we celebrate Founding Artistic Director Madi Distefano, Jess Conda, and everything and everyone Brat.
Your aid allows artists to take risks and create new compelling art, and introduce new individuals to the amazing, wonderful, wacky world of theatre.
TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb
TJ Kong & the Atomic Bomb have been described as "A cross between the Mountain Goats, Tom Waits and the ghost of Captain Beefheart serenading the crowd at a drunken rodeo."
Specifically, they are a Rock N Roll band from Philadelphia fronted by Dan Bruskewicz, Bar stool Poet Laureate and Patron Saint of boiled peanuts. They are a throwback, if such a thing is still possible, to the swinging, drunken dancing memories of jump blues and roadhouse rock. But with dark lyrics that barely make sense.
Since the release of their first full length album in the Spring of 2010, TJ Kong and Co. have spent most of their time touring the country and becoming more or less a machine of soulful joy. In that time they have released two LP's, "Idiots" and "Manufacturing Joy", and an EP, "Kong" with famed Philadelphia producer Bill Moriarty in March of 2014. They have been invited to perform at POP Montreal, South By Southwest, CMJ Music Marathon, Denver GABF, Truck America and O Positive festivals and have opened for bands such as Mercury Rev, Yarn, J Roddy Walston and the Business, Phantogram, These United States, Here We Go Magic, White Rabbits, Dax Riggs, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, Hurray for the Riff Raff, etc.
The Brat Cabaret
Featuring a Drag performance and two rock medleys!
Isadora is a band which came together in Brooklyn in 2012. The band consists of Aaron Mendelsohn (vocals, guitar), Ian Mellencamp (bass, vocals), Jesse Bilotta (drums, vocals), Nick Burleigh (guitar, violin), and Josh Rouah (keyboards, guitar, vocals).
The band began as a duo, writing dreamy, melodic pop tunes inspired by early Andrew Bird. The lineup grew and shrank, and grew again. The evolution in the lineup has inspired an evolution as well in the band's sound. They have arrived at a rich, textured sound, sometimes going purely on feel and sometimes highly composed.
Surprise is one of the touchstones of Isadora's sound - the band will set up a certain expectation but then deliver more fully on something else lurking beneath the surface. An explosive burst of rhythm shocks you out of a smoother introduction on their upcoming first release, "On the Rights," and takes you somewhere you'd never have expected.
Their first collection of songs will arrive in early 2013.
