TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb
TJ Kong & the Atomic Bomb are a band of so and so's who sound like Bob Seger high on cocaine in the bathtub watching Werner Herzog movies.
Or, according to The Deli, "A cross between the Mountain Goats, Tom Waits and the ghost of Captain Beefheart serenading the crowd at a drunken rodeo."
On September 25th the band released their second full length- MANUFACTURING JOY - the album is marked by whiskey-soaked balladry, bootstomp folk, punk, garage and gypsy rock with field holler music- that's the gist of it. Or as the boys like to call it- Post Apocalypse Blues
Manufacturing Joy has garnered much critical acclaim, earning the band a larger presence on the indie radar in recent months. They graced the cover of Philadelphia's Citypaper for it's October 4th Music Issue, where Citypaper's Drew Lazor wrote, "The band's second self-released full length is a strong step forward for an outfit already considered one of Philly's most potent live acts." Philadelphia Weekly featured the album, alongside releases by Pink, Meek Mill, Major Lazer and Sun Airway as one of the 5 new Philadelphia albums to buy in their annual Fall Guide. USA Today included them in their 5 Bands to Watch in 2013 feature, saying "Manufacturing Joy has made them one of the most sought after bands in Philly." WXPN in an exlusive interview said "TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb spin wandering, interweaving stories about outcasts and outlaws on dramatic benders, suffering from cocaine nosebleeds and bourbon hangovers as they cling to their last thread of sanity. Manufacturing Joy takes these stories of desperate living and uplifts them into danceable jams."
The Brat Cabaret
Featuring a Drag performance and two rock medleys!
Isadora is a band which came together in Brooklyn in 2012. The band consists of Aaron Mendelsohn (vocals, guitar), Ian Mellencamp (bass, vocals), Jesse Bilotta (drums, vocals), Nick Burleigh (guitar, violin), and Josh Rouah (keyboards, guitar, vocals).
The band began as a duo, writing dreamy, melodic pop tunes inspired by early Andrew Bird. The lineup grew and shrank, and grew again. The evolution in the lineup has inspired an evolution as well in the band's sound. They have arrived at a rich, textured sound, sometimes going purely on feel and sometimes highly composed.
Surprise is one of the touchstones of Isadora's sound - the band will set up a certain expectation but then deliver more fully on something else lurking beneath the surface. An explosive burst of rhythm shocks you out of a smoother introduction on their upcoming first release, "On the Rights," and takes you somewhere you'd never have expected.
Their first collection of songs will arrive in early 2013.
