In the Whale
In The Whale originally formed in the small town of Greeley, Colorado as a fun escape from their main bands. When those bands dissolved, it quickly became their focus, and in February of 2011 they moved to Denver to be a part of the music scene and try to build a legitimate fan base.
Since their move, they have been the name on everyone’s lips, as an answer to the current musical climate of too much reverb and not enough balls. The band started 2012 with an EP release show, selling out the Hi-Dive, a 300 capacity venue and the go to spot for up and coming Denver bands. The EP, “Cake,” is dirty and aggressive, yet surprisingly light-hearted (think Eagles of Death Metal meets The White Stripes).
With an absolutely undeniable live show and a tenacious work ethic, this local Denver band won’t be local for long.
The Hate is the empowered musical voice of a youth culture that is seeking a new rebellion. The music is loud, honest, and abrasive. The stories expel off their tongues with conviction and truth. The Hate is an earnest cry for those seeking more and their message is...
“We are the authors of the future. We are the architects of a time regarded as still to come. And we will rise like the sands of the desert. Rise like the waves of the ocean and the winds of the mountains and you will hear us. You will see us. You will feel our words in your bones, in your very soul. For We are the future. You are the future!
Led by dynamic young singer-songwriter/guitarist Nate Cook, young Boulder trio The Yawpers (named after Walt Whitman's promise to "sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world") recall a grittier version of Wilco, with as much raw country sensibility as twisted indie imagination. Equally akin to Deer Tick, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and Elvis, The Yawpers give a fresh blend of indie-country and rock 'n' roll. The band's debut CD, Savage Blue, is due 11/29/2011 on Adventure Records.
The partnership between Adventure Records and the Yawpers aims to bring soulful, Southern-tinged rock 'n' roll from the Front Range to the larger music world. Savage Blue was recorded in three locations - with former Smashing Pumpkins engineer Bill Douglas in Colorado Springs, with talented young engineer Tira Neal at tastefully lo-fi studio in Broomfield, and at Yawpers guitarist Jesse Parmet's apartment/studio in Boulder. Highlighting the simultaneous romance and ravage of singer/guitarist Nate Cook, Savage Blue alternates between sinister indie dirge ala The Black Angels; poignant, off-the-rails Exile On Main St.-style rock; and desolate, dusty balladry.
Equally akin to Deer Tick, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and Elvis, The Yawpers give a fresh blend of alt-country and rock 'n' roll. And they're playing in your town very soon.
