Wolf + Lamb
For nearly a decade, Wolf + Lamb has prided itself on procuring and presenting some of the finest gourmet music from around the world. Using nothing but two turntables and a steadfast determination to make people move, the duo have been lighting up dance-floors in New York and around the globe.
The partnership was struck when Zev "Wolf" Eisenberg and Gadi "Lamb" Mizrahi discovered a similar penchant for new and exotic dance styles from abroad and an innate ability to tolerate each other for long periods of time. The two immediately set out to spread their vision of community, music and the celebration that ties it all together.
In 2005, with opening of Wolf + Lamb Music, their variety label has become a home for established and rising young talent the likes of Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Deniz Kurtel, Nicolas Jaar, No Regular Play & Soul Clap, publishing original music, edits and everything in between. While leaning towards house, the duo and label's sound encompass nuevo disco, hipster crossover, sex house and strains country.
Since then, it has grown to include three record labels, well over 100 community dances — and counting, a clothing line, a legendary 6 star hotel and club, and, their new line of organic pet food: Woof & Lamme.
Whilst nobody can tell for certain what the future holds, we'd wager them celebrating life, liberty and the pursuit of a satisfying melody well into the future.
Before today is yesterday and after tomorrow is the future, Elyte and Cnyce's paths were crossed for all time when a Sun Ra light beam sent from Saturn collided with the P-Funk Mothership and sent them tumbling to earth. Now, Soul Clap time travels on a musical spaceship of dopeness...
PillowTalk is Sammy D, Ryan Williams and Michael Tello. Based out of the famous Lower Haight District in San Francisco, PillowTalk's music fuses classic R&B, boogie and disco with underground house and techno with an original feel. With releases out on Visionquest, Life & Death and Wolf + Lamb, 2012 is shaping up to be a huge year as they hit the road with the live band.
It all started when they found themselves up late, gathered around the baby grand piano in Ryan's kitchen. Tello would be strumming on guitar and Sammy would be fiddling around on the Wurlitzer. It all just came together organically without knowing it, melodies would form, songs would appear and before anyone realised, Sammy would be singing some off-hand hook and, hey presto, you had what Arthur Russell would call; first thought, best thought compositions.
Soon, these impromptu and improvised jam sessions were recorded on iPhone apps before being taken to the lab (a space about two blocks away) and from there they were transformed into alluring, charming, dance-pop songs.
With experience of, and backgrounds in, so many genres, Pillow Talk are making some seriously inspiring and beautifully original music. If youre trying to pin down their exact sound you may have to refer to their motto of D.A.G (destroy all genres - a term borrowed from a famed underground San Fran DJ). With influences ranging from the Beach Boys to Sam Cooke, from Freddie Hubbard to Harry Nilsson, and from Larry Heard to Theo Parrish, you can tell these guys are ruled from the right side of their brains. Having just started composing, this trio are still finding their own true groove, with their full potential yet to be explored
A delightful debut single (Love Makes Parks on the revered Visionquest imprint) is soon to be followed by a beautiful full length on Life and Death, before following that up with another finely crafted EP for NYC house darlings, Wolf + Lamb. As well as that, a live show is in the works, soon to be debuted later this year. We look forward to following this fresh and exciting new sound and realize some of your deepest secrets are revealed Pillow Talking, so we are just lucky to listen in.
Navid Izadi (live)
A musician on a mission, Navid Izadi has quickly risen from a San Francisco club kid to buzzing new one to watch. Rolling as a DJ, singer and rapper (but rarely over rap beats), and producing music that effortlessly weaves between influences, his talents are being drafted in and championed by a range of industry heavyweights. Aside from recent andupcoming vocal features for major leaguers like Deniz Kurtel, Soul Clap and close friends PillowTalk, the past year has also seen Navid remix the likes of Pezzner and Miguel Migs. The future holds much more with several EPs lined up for the 'crew love' label family (Wolf + Lamb and the forthcoming Soul Clap Records) as well as a full-length album that will see the young Renaissance man stretching his musical legs far and wide On the sublime debut EP for Double Standard Records, A-side 'Ain't Got The Time' pays homage to trippy, proto electronics but with Navid's forward-thinking attitude.
Nick Monaco is here to take you back.... and move you forth.
In the year 1990 Nick Monaco was conceived by two passionate lovebirds in the mystical depths of the Grand Canyon, it was known then that this boy was destined to make magic himself. Nick is a 90's baby from Northern California's Bay Area. He likes long walks on the beach, appreciates sunshine, bass and abides by his personal philosophy: the weirder, the funkier, the better.
Rocking house parties is how Nick spent most weekends in his not so distant adolescence. Thank G-O-D for out of town parents! While his peers fussed over iPod playlists, Monaco busted in with crates of wax and brought down the spot, learning to win the crowds in true school style.
As a freshman in high school, Monaco was obsessed with turntablism and anything with the words Hip and Hop in it. Locking himself in his bedroom with his decks he scratched his fingers numb for more than 5 hours a day. Practice seemed to make perfect as he was soon sought after for his innovative scratches by the all-time extraterrestrial DJ Qbert who asked for Monaco's contribution for the instructional glossary "Scratchlopedia Breaktannica." (Available online!)
Nick will tell you himself, he is as much influenced by Deee-Lite as he is by Elliot Smith and you can really hear it in his wide and eclectic musical tastes. The Soul Clap boys would agree. They received a demo from Monaco in 2011, which featured "Set the Table," and were blown away by its quirkiness, innocence, and originality. Since then they have adopted him as a part of the Soul Clap family and have saved a seat for him on the mothership, Soul Clap Records.
Claude VonStroke over in the offices of Dirty Bird Records has also taken a shining to Monaco. When Nick kicked off 2012 with "Long Kiss Goodnight (Soul Clap Edit)," it was signed to Dirtybird's "Hatched" compilation; a meaningful gesture electing him to represent the future of his native Bay Area. Currently Nick Monaco is making his transition from big bass to deeper, emotional, and more musical explorations, a sign of maturity and growth, the fruit of which we are soon to taste.
