In the distance a machine drones, you follow the sound. Slow steps. Alone in a gloomy corridor, no escape; your only option is to continue onward. Swells of distortion begin to devour what is left of any fears, grasping reservations. You're drowning in a thick wall of tone. No choice but to accept the reverberation that's consuming you. At last you reach the origin of the resonance, this black hole, the machine. You've reached the Highlands; it feels good to gaze this hard.
This is Highlands, a band of ghosts. Their pedigree, reputation, and geographical location are irrelevant. What’s of significance is their music. Somewhere between shoegaze and neo-phychedelia, Highlands will take any willing listener to the other side of the ominous looking-glass.
Emerging from the depths of Sweden the 4-piece band The Orange Revival mixing everything from blues rock to psychedelia with a looming 60's vibe.
Due for release in 2014 is a whole new sound from the troubadour’s ever-spinning reels: ‘Adventure:Us’, a matchbox collection of electric psych-soul gems cut over two sessions in the autumns of 2011 and 2012 in Brooklyn with producer Robin MacMillan (Persephone’s Bees, Shalants). Now with a cast of accomplished players Brett Eastman (x-Girls), Zach Ryan (x-Stone Foxes) and Rohini Moradi, Sweeney’s band whips up the vast spectrum of his songs into a magnetic force, drawing ears who hear something familiar yet mysteriously new, as if plucked from an Earth-like planet just barely detectable on our Doppler. It’s a sound that’s hard to come by, thrilling to chase, and comforting to know.
