Delhi 2 Dublin
Vancouver-based Delhi 2 Dublin is a group of five musicians who mash up electronica and world music, keeping it heavy on the Bhangra, Celtic and Dub flavours. Fusing tabla, fiddle, dhol, Punjabi vocals, and electric sitar with scorching electronic beats, the crew takes listeners on a wild ride through global sounds and synchronicities.
Originally formed for a one-shot performance during Vancouver's Celtic Fest in March of 2006, word of their foot stomping, high energy live set started to spread, and the project took on a life of its own. Since then, D2D has been busy gigging constantly, touring Eastern Canada and California, playing some of Canada's largest festivals (including the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Shambhala, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues) as well as being invited to open the massive Canada Day celebrations for 40,000 people on Parliament Hill in Ottawa in 2007. They've shared the bill with names like De La Soul, Cheb i Sabbah, and Metric, and have found a cult following in many of the West Coast's smaller communities and towns. Their debut album "Delhi 2 Dublin" reached #3 on the Canadian Chart Attack world music charts; their new Remix album reached #1 and receives consistent airplay from Japan to Eastern Europe to the UK.
D2D is now getting ready for a busy summer of touring; they'll be hitting festivals like Sunfest (London), Hillside (Guelph), the Regina Folk Festival, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the North County Fair (AB), Faerieworlds (Eugene), The Big time Out (Cumberland), Shambhala (Nelson) and some other big surprises that they can't share quite yet…
They are also currently recording their first music video with their friend and director Michael Mann.
NON STOP BHANGRA COMES TO THE EAST BAY!!
In April, Non Stop Bhangra is hosting a special East Bay Edition of its monthly night at the New Parish in Oakland. After years of feedback from people about bringing Non Stop Bhangra night to the East Bay and having it be accessible to people under 21, this month we are making it happen. The full Non Stop Bhangra production ventures out for one of a kind night featuring a special live set with guest headliner, Mickey Sing. Still holding to its tradition, the night will start off with the ritual Bhangra dance lesson and performances by Dholrhythms Dance Company and dj sets with NSB’s Jimmy Love and DJ Rav-E plus live Dhol drumming with Pavit and Mehul and visuals by Amar to keep the party rocking. If you have never made it out to a Non Stop Bhangra night it, here’s your chance to come experience it on this side of the bridge. Don’t miss it!
An Award Winning Event and Collective, Non Stop Bhangra is a unique experience that celebrates the beautiful and vibrant spirit of Bhangra, a traditional Punjabi folk music and dance. Imagine a scene from a Bollywood movie smack in the middle of a thumping nightclub-swirling colors, the rhythm of pounding feet, & the relentless energy of brilliant beats--thats Non Stop Bhangra!
Highlighting the ancestral roots of Punjabi dance while pushing boundaries with contemporary influences, Non Stop Bhangra is a genre-busting elixir of North Indian Bhangra music and dance, mixed with reggae, hip-hop, and electronica. An ever-evolving collective of dancers, DJs, drummers, vocalists, and musicians, Non Stop Bhangra is a non-stop party. Featuring dance lessons and performances with Dholrhythms Dance Company, and music by DJ Jimmy Love, the group has won legions of fans with its monthly events in San Francisco. NSB has made this traditional style a serious dance floor craze in San Francisco, drawing the most diverse crowds to join in the frenzy. “Non Stop Bhangra captures one of the city’s most vibrant, cross-cultural, and enduring parties, which features DJs and guest musicians and dancers introducing and building on worldly styles that would otherwise go relatively unexposed in the area.”
