Athfest Night 2: Cracker

Alt-rock icons Cracker have signed with 429 Records and are preparing to unleash a collection of new songs, SUNRISE IN THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY. Long-time musical co-horts David Lowery and Johnny Hickman have teamed up again with drummer Frank Funaro and bassist Sal Maida and along with stellar producer David Barbe (Drive By Truckers), have created a uniquely eclectic trove of new tunes. Well-worn words used to describe their sound—brash, irreverent, sharp-witted, anthemic and riveting—all descriptives are in full-effect on the new project that bursts with their trademark rock, punk, glam, surf and country aesthetic. Friends John Doe, Patterson Hood and Adam Duritz also make spirited guest turns on SUNRISE…Their 429 Records debut is in-stores on May 5 and the first single to radio is "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out With Me".

Taking a new approach to their creative process, SUNRISE IN THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY is a truly collaborative effort for the band. Suprisingly self-disciplined, the whole band would take time out to write together one week every two months between tours over the course of a year. Focusing on a goal of two songs per day, their individual musical influences combined in refreshing and distinctive ways. On the outside it was a straight-ahead work ethic, but the process resulted in the band clicking creatively with a renewed energy.

Says Lowery: "We weren't kicking back on an island in the Caribbean, waiting for the muse to hit us. We got down to work, found the punk and glam rock in our blood and woke up to Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey."

Radiolucent

Forming in Athens Georgia, Radiolucent began to build a solid fan base early on with their high energy, engaging performances and ability to establish personal connections with listeners through music. Upon completion of their debut album “Turn Me On and Turn Me Loose” in 2012, the Lucent boys began traveling the southeast leaving each town with their example of what an honest rock and roll show should be. After sharing the stage with a variety of artists ranging from Merle Haggard, Jamey Johnson and Blackberry Smoke to Cracker, Vintage Trouble and KISS the band experienced line up changes that would prove to greatly affect the flavor of their follow up album.

In July of 2014 Radiolucent entered into the studio to begin work on their second release “Electric City.” With the addition of 3 new members the group continues to push their creative boundaries and craft a product that is entirely their own. The new album which is currently in the later stages of the recording process is set to release in the Spring of 2015. Michael Mann expressed his excitement for the new project saying “This is the most proud I’ve ever felt about anything I’ve taken part in creating. It sounds better, the songs are better, our influences are more electric and it’s more fun than anything else we’ve ever done. I’m a proud proud Poppa!”

Virginia-based rock band Sons Of Bill are thrilled to announce the release of their new album SIRENS. This powerful collection of guitar-driven rock songs and reflective alt-country was produced by long-time fan, and fellow Virginian, David Lowery (Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven).

Led by brothers James, Sam and Abe Wilson along with Seth Green and Todd Wellons, Sons of Bill is a band that sounds like where they're from – somewhere south of Bruce Springsteen's rock and roll desperation, but slightly north of their alt-country contemporaries.

From the driving country twang of "Find My Way Back Home" to the strikingly beautiful "Angry Eyes," from the anthemic striving of "Siren Song," to the tortured but hopeful "Virginia Calling," SIRENS' centers on the tension between alienation and belonging in the modern world, resulting in a memorable collection of songs and the band's best work to date.

Sons Of Bill have released the new song "Santa Ana Winds," a haunting tale set to a fury of piano and power chords, for free download. Download "Santa Ana Winds" here: http://sonsofbill.com
