For The Fallen Dreams

In today's hardcore/metal scene, it's easy for anyone to become jaded by the constant clones of, what is basically, the same band with hundreds of different names. We've all heard it; the same riff accompanied by the growling vocals and simultaneous "chug-chug" breakdowns. So, we wait and maybe search the music section on Myspace for a breath of fresh air. Thankfully, hidden in the obscure depths of the internet are bands that give this genre hope, and if you look hard enough, you can find them.

One of these noteworthy bands is Lansing, Michigan's well kept secret, For the Fallen Dreams. Formed in late 2003 and recently signing with Rise Records (The Devil Wears Prada, Drop Dead Gorgeous) in the summer of 2007, these young men show incredible promise through songs that showcase poignant and powerful writing, both lyrically and musically while still staying in touch with their hardcore/metal roots. Their music displays a well-done balance of metal and melody. Guitarists, Jim Hocking and Chris Cain show a variety of ranges while shifting back and forth between hard-hitting metal riffs and some rather melodic guitar lines. Given their ability to draw the listener in with brutally honest lyrics about life, relationships, and struggle, the band shows solidarity for their future as a band to be taken seriously.

With 2010 shaping up to be a pretty big year for For the Fallen Dreams, I think we'll be hearing a lot more from them. Dylan, Jim, Chris, Joe and Andrew certainly seem to be on their way to setting the bar for the future of hardcore.

Hundredth

Hundredth is one of the most intense and emotionally-driven bands you will see in 2010. Their debut record “When Will We Surrender” features 13 tracks of desperation, each song melodically driven and packaged with pure honesty. Injustice fuels their righteous anger and that is apparent in the album’s opening lyrics. Delivering a message of hope to those suffering, Hundredth aims to spread positivity through a scene that’s been darkened by violence and negativity. After experiencing many obstacles in 2009, their heads are held high and they are moving forward steadfast. Raw honesty and authenticity are craftily woven into their debut, which releases on Mediaskare Records on March 30th, 2010.

Upon This Dawning

Hailing from Verona, Italy, pulverizing sextet Upon This Dawning has been honing their melodically brand of metal. Touring incessantly in Italy, the band quickly attracted a rabid following in their home country, releasing EP "Count The Seconds Until Your Last Breath", and gained new fans in each city at their shows throughout Europe.

Wolves At The Gate

Wolves At The Gate is made up of four individuals who live to create passionate music for passionate people. After forming in the tiny town of Cedarville, Ohio in April of 2008, the guys have played countless shows in the Tri-State area, performing with bands such as Oh, Sleeper, Emarosa, Greeley Estates and Oceana, among others. They have won several major contests, earning them the rights to play with Bring Me The Horizon, Thursday, Four Year Strong and others during the 2009 Taste Of Chaos Tour stop in Cincinnati, OH, as well as sharing the stage with Saosin, Innerparty System, P.O.S. and others during the Columbus, OH date of the 2009 PacTour. The band was also hand-picked to play the 2010 Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, Illinois. After releasing several demos in 2008 and 2009, the band is poised to release their debut EP in early 2011, which was engineered, mixed and mastered by Tyler Smyth of the Fearless Records band Let's Get It. Through their mission to "show the incredible love of God to every person we come in contact with", WATG strongly believes that "the salvation message of the Gospel is free to everyone, and our primary purpose on this earth is to spread that message to everyone we meet." Needless to say, WATG is gearing up for an exciting and action-packed 2011!

Optimism is a fucking disease.

We are a group of dudes from Lake County, Illinois as of March 2011.
