Jet Set, the all-new album from Los Straitjackets, is a collection of 14 carefully crafted guitar-driven songs that prove to be the most diverse and inventive of Los Straitjackets' oeuvre. Jet Set also marks the return of Danny Amis (Daddy-O Grande) to the band after recovering from a difficult battle with Multiple Myeloma. The album was recorded at The Pow Wow Fun Room studios in Los Angeles with producer and friend Janne Haavisto (of Laika And The Cosmonauts) and includes a few guest appearances by The Basic Cable Horns (from the Conan show) and Finnish actress and musician Irina Bjorklund. Jet Set delivers the high-energy rock and roll instrumental music fans have come to expect from Los Straitjackets.
With a sound that combines the classic strumming of 1960s surf music---reminiscent of Dick Dale's guitar work---with the element of punk, Los Straitjackets have carved a successful niche for themselves in the world of alternative rock. Comprised of Eddie Angel and Danny Amis on guitars, Pete Curry on bass, and Jimmy Lester on drums, the instrumental band has performed original as well as classic tunes, while always focusing on pop culture and fun. Their trademark Mexican wrestling masks, matching clothes, and custom-made matching guitars have made them one of the more visually exciting bands to see in live performance.
Big Fat Combo
"Big Fat Combo is a super cool band- it’s hard to put it any other way. They play rootsy American music, mixing well crafted originals with a surprising pick of left field cover tunes. A solid rhythm section featuring stand up bass, a charismatic hero-type front man and a guitarist who makes the most wonderful bunch of noises come out of his instrument, all combine to a groovy rock experience.. Their debut CD may be taking longer to finish than the latest Axl Rose piece, but it will be worth the wait."
