Zodiac Death Valley

Zodiac Death Valley

Zodiac Death Valley is San Francisco past, future, and present: Cactus flower romanticism junk rock echoing the hardened curbside soul of The Haight and Mission districts, dark sailor music extracted from the cold bawdy Barbary waterfront, and sparkling vibrant optimism like a Dolores Park Summer day. This is their sacred ground and, just perhaps, never has one sound put it all together in such a fashion.
They started as an acoustic three piece then added new members, got explosively electric and came out the other end with their very own brand of mud and blood Country Blues Goth Psych Rock 'N' Roll. Unflinchingly playing the West Coast's top and bottom clubs, radio stations, warehouses, art galleries, and television channels - In love only with music, creation, and process... a (sadly) refreshing/original obsession nowadays, no?
Come see captivating lyrics, barrel house piano, psychedelic organ layers, searing lead guitar, thumping bass lines, and a train rolling back beat. Come bring it all home. Raucous live ZDV performances have garnered them a reputation as a band that must be seen.
This sonic scorch of a self-titled debut was recorded at Different Fur Studios in (of course) San Francisco in the Spring of 2011 with accomplished producer Patrick Brown (Black Lips, Chow Nasty, The Morning Benders, LILAC).

Leopold And His Fiction

Naked, stripped down and aching with adrenaline is the rawness of Leopold and his Fiction. A revolving group of friends led by Daniel James (lead vocal/guitar), their essential make up sprouted from collaborations made on the road in the whirlwind cycle of touring. From San Francisco to LA to Austin various musical adventures had come and gone, until James found a common vision in the musicians he'd met along the way. Originally formed as an outlet for Daniel to exercise his virtues gained from years living in Detroit, Leopold and his Fiction absorbed pieces of the Motown catalog along with the protopunk resonance of Iggy's Stooges and molded them into a personal version of the rock 'n' roll dream. It's as if they, themselves, are connected directly into an electrical outlet. "The band elicits a power when it's time to perform that is unable to be harnessed in any other medium short of a fist fight," says James. "Whether that's on stage or in a recording studio it's almost hard to contain it. It's more life than I've ever felt before." It was that sonic fever that landed the group recent support slots for The Cult and ZZ Top. For the past year Leopold and his Fiction have been working with Grammy-nominated producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith (The Datsuns, Slayer, Jet, The Dandy Warhols, etc.) in recording and capturing a captivating musical journey that is as relentless as it is inspiring.

Sporting Life

Sporting Life is a San Francisco rock band with an appreciation for short tunes, fine haberdashery, & the teenaged, privileged bad guy from every 80's movie. Less than a year old, the band has already been featured on Aaron Axelsen's Soundcheck on KITS (Live 105) and has played many venues including, but not limited to, The Independent, The Knockout!, The Hemlock, and Red Devil Lounge. They dislike cheap Bordeaux, slow shoe shiners, and the article "the" when placed before their name.

Rusty Maples

Bred from the ashes of brothers Blair and Ian Dewane's now defunct but much loved indie pop band The Skooners, Rusty Maples started out as Las Vegas Strip busking sessions between singer Blair Dewane and classically trained cellist Courtney Waldron. Those early busking sessions were well received by the public, and feeling that they had something special going on they began adding more members to make a full band, picking up songwriting partner/brother/lead guitarist Ian Dewane, Mike Weller from prominent Las Vegas bands Hungry Cloud and A Crowd Of Small Adventures on bass, and Minneapolis transplant Max Plenke on drums. With the full lineup locked in, Rusty Maples wasted no time booking nationwide, first opening for David Bazan and soon thereafter stepping in as the backing band for New York's OK SWEETHEART during her 2012 SXSW tour.
With a sound all their own combining alt-country, folk, surf, garage-punk, and west coast sparkly indie pop, Rusty Maples has risen to the forefront of the Las Vegas indie scene, with comparisons to The Lumineers, Local Natives, Mumford and Sons, The Shins, and The Walkmen. .
