Tony Middleton, a vocalist of many genres! He is in the Doo Wop Hall of Fame as the lead singer of the Willows of “Church Bells May Ring” fame, appearing on PBS many times. He has performed in several Broadway musicals, such as the lead in “Cabin in the Sky” and principle roles in “Purlie” and “Porgy and Bess” and others. Tony was the understudy for Sammy Davis in “Free and Easy” written by Harold Arlin and Johnny Mercer. He also performed in concert at the City Center and Wolf Trap with the Alvin Ailey Dancers singing the “Mary Lou William’s Mass”
Tony Middleton is legendary in England and Wales for his Northern Soul music & is a favorite amongst collectors. As a soloist, he has performed and is known by many worldclass performers. Tony has performed with and the music of Burt Bacharach, Quincy Jones, Cy Coleman and Claus Ogermann. He has performed extensively in Paris which included film and singing the title for the movie soundtrack of ‘Adam & Eve’ written by Michel Legrand.
Tony’s silky baritone was in constant studio demand and during his time at the Brill Building where he cut demos for Lou Rauls, Tony Bennett and Elvis, who liked his version of ‘Big Hunk O’ Love’ so much that he kept it for his own collection. Artie Wayne, the West Coast record producer, etc., remembers, “Tony Middleton was amongst Elvis’ favorite demo singers…and Tony Middleton was one of mine. Tony always added a little extra to his demonstration of a song, which Elvis appreciated and appropriated whenever he could”.
As a jazz vocalist and entertainer, Tony Middleton can be seen regularly in NYC. His big voice is often compared to Joe Williams, Arthur Prysock or Lou Rauls, having a range more complex, with his deep and sultry tones. His exciting voice and warmth has endeared him to thousands of club-goers in the United States and Europe. Tony can be
edgy or soft, amusing or seductive………..
