Stornoway is a British alternative indie pop band who formed in 2006 in the Cowley area of Oxford, UK. Stornoway consists of singer and guitarist Brian Briggs; singer, guitarist, cellist and keyboardist
Jon ouin; singer, guitarist and bassist Oliver; and drummer Robert. The band is often joined by trumpeter Adam Briggs and violinist Rahul Satija.
Named after the Hebridean town on the Isle of Lewis, which appears on all UK televised weather reports and shipping forecasts, the group incorporates string instruments and keyboards, supported by a typical pop backline of guitar, drums, and bass guitar. The band is signed to the British independent record label 4AD.
Before signing to a record label, the band self-released three CD EP’s; The Early Adventures of Stornoway, Letters From Lewis and On The Rocks
Their first single on 4AD was Zorbing, which was released in July 2009. This was followed up by Unfaithful, later that year. A third single, I Saw You Blink was released in March 2010.
Their debut album, Beachcomber’s Windowsill was released in May 2010.
Horse Thief recently released their debut LP entitled, Grow Deep, Grow Wild. Some songs on the album, such as "I Am The Bear," hint at influences like The Smiths, while others like the Oklahoma anthem, "Warrior," draw upon the band's various influences such as Grizzly Bear and Fleet Foxes. Horse Thief has opened for bands such as Heartless Bastards, Colourmusic, and Jukebox the Ghost. They have performed at 35 Conferette, 2012 Official SXSW Showcase, Free Tulsa and the Norman Music Festival.
