Chad Valley are the personal outpourings of one Hugo Manuel, the balearic inclined vocalist of Oxford’s Jonquil and founder member of the Blessing Force collective.
Taking a more electronic approach to sunset vibes, Hugo has made quite a splash this past summer. In his short 25 show career he’s already played in Dublin, Paris, Budapest, Belgrade and Istanbul, been a big smash at In The City and supported the likes of Amiina, Mountain Goats and Foals. His music has been on every blog you can think of from Gorilla vs. Bear to Pitchfork’s Forkcast, the latter of which has featured him three times in recent months and at one point in late October was the fourth most blogged about artist on the planet.
He’s enjoyed a host of radio plays across the BBC and had his debut BBC session recorded for Huw Stephens’ show in January 2011.
Chad Valley’s debut EP is out on Service’s US imprint Cascine (USA / UK / JP / Scan) and French label Maman (EU) and a follow up is slated for release this coming Spring in UK, US and Japan.
Ski Lodge is a two-way mirror into the mind of Andrew Marr:
multi-instrumentalist, expressionist, and the newest member of the
Dovecote Records family. Marr's inward-looking, earnest surf pop
suggest, instead of Summer, a longing for Summer on an early Spring
day. By funneling influences ranging from The Morning Benders to
Arcade Fire and The Smiths into the sound of the Strokes and Vampire
Weekend, Marr manages to bypass the epic, opting for a more brassy,
lilting croon. It's music about forgiveness, youth, and staying on the
long, meandering path toward an eventual home
When they first met at a dive arcade in Koreatown Los Angeles, Eddingtonn "The California Cowboy" spoke on only one topic:
"The house fly has compound eyes, meaning one "eye" is composed from many, many small little eyes. They have two compound eyes, but it is most likely unknown how many "little eyes" they have."
The objective remains simple; created a sound that is 50% Extra Terrestrial and 50% Hulk, conveniently bottled into the body of Jeff Goldblum (the only fly they can relate to). Cinchy right? Since then they've been puttin it down. With soulful, 80's funk heavy, crispy kick beats produced by Tulip "Barth Grooks" Pezley, Oddience strives to make you rock, bop, and smile. Backed and fronted with refrigerator harmonies, ohhh's, ahha's, sha-woops by the likes of female super talent Miche "The 100 Watt" Maya, hip-hop's best new trio leave the kids sayin
