Christine is know for bringing her “well-built, catchy, smart tunes” (Upstage Magazine) to audiences everywhere, touring nationally as a solo act as well as with Gypsy Fuzz. After an inspirational time of based in Portland, OR, Christine is once again back in the Philly area and entertaining at such venues as World Cafe Live at The Queen. Christine utilizes the soft gritty texture of her vocals to express warmth and honesty that listeners quickly embrace as well as her aggressive, raw, trash-style guitar playing. Mark Rogers from 93.7 WSTW raves, “…with Gypsy Fuzz (the album and the band), Christine takes especially that rock element and turns it to 11. Gypsy Fuzz fuses fantastic guitar work with Christine’s vocals, which can reach down inside and grab your heart. A very diverse album, showing elements of rock, blues and even country, among others, Gypsy Fuzz continues Christine’s string of fantastic albums. Buy it.” Named "One of the Top Ten Indie Artists" by The Advocate Magazine, The Washington Post writes, “(Havrilla’s) songs are intelligent and moving, the arrangements are incisive and colorful, and, best of all, Havrilla consistently comes across as a confident and seasoned performer.” Gypsy Fuzz’s premier album titled “Searching. Finding. Living.”, co-produced by Larry Crane (Elliott Smith, Sleater-Kinney, Cat Power), was listed on Advocate Magazine’s not to be missed “Best Overlooked Albums of 2011!” (Advocate -November 2011) and She Wired’s Top Ten Albums of the Year! Christine was nominated for About.com's 2013 Reader's Choice Awards, awarded the 2010 Garden State Film Festival’s “Best Contemporary Country Song” for “Blinders”, and is called "...raw, simple, wonderful!" by Curve Magazine. Inessa at 101.9 KINK.FM calls Gypsy Fuzz "Yet another fun late-year discover!" Michaela Majoun at 88.5 WXPN applauds her "terrific, big sound”, while Philadelphia Magazine states, “She rocks!” These Live Sessions help re-introduce the energetic musical career of Christine back to the east coast and beyond! Starting off the evening will be our special guest (& our talented back-up singer with Gypsy Fuzz), the Gretchen Schultz Trio, making their debut at The Queen!
Mama's Black Sheep
Baltimore, MD based Mama’s Black Sheep is the musical collaboration of singer-songwriters Ashland Miller (guitar/vocals) and Laura Cerulli (drums/vocals). Touring together since 2008 and both veterans of the singer-songwriter circuit, Miller & Cerulli will make you feel like you’ve been listening to their music for years. Together Miller and Cerulli create a unique tapestry of songs, weaving vibrant color and rich texture to create a dynamic conversation between guitar and percussion. Miller’s passionate voice will make you laugh, cry, feel inspired, and ultimately want more. And Bob Steel of Baltimore Out Loud writes "Cerulli opens her mouth and the world stands still as she wrings every drop of emotion out of the lyrics with her powerful, soaring voice, forged in the fire of the blues and tempered in the cool technique of her classical training."
