Their first album ROOTS was released in 2015 and in early 2020 UM will be releasing their second album (title and date are TBD). UNRULY MANE is an NYC based band but they’ve played live all over the world including Kenya, Ireland, and Canada with hopes to expand further in the coming year. You can catch them playing local NYC shows both independently and with SoFar Sounds. Dirty Bird hails from the concrete woodlands of New York City, and consists of Christie Belanger, Melissa Escudero, Natasha Thweatt, Julia Conrad, Nick Katz, John Crisan and Blake Suben. Though the band is young, each member has spent his or her life grounded in music. With roots going back to New York’s renowned arts school LaGuardia High School, the members of Dirty Bird reconnected in 2016, and in true New York style bring a wide variety of musical backgrounds—ranging from jazz to bluegrass to classical—together in one vibrant and wholly original folk sound.
Since forming, the band has presented powerful performances to venues around the Northeast, including Rockwood Music Hall, Mass MoCa and Radio Bean, and the Northside Music Festival. Dirty Bird brings both new and long-devoted audiences intimate, poetic lyrics charged by three-part harmony and lively, distinctive arrangements. Soulful, harmonious, and ever-evolving, Dirty Bird’s music redefines what it means to be a folk band.
Night on the Sun
Night on the Sun is an alternative pop outfit based in Brooklyn, NY. NOTS is focused on crafting songs that capture the earnestness of one person alone in a room with a guitar, while still providing energetic and lush accompaniment within the arrangements. As a “melody first” project, NOTS is interested in producing confessional and unexpected verses next to cathartic and communal choruses. The mission statement for the group has always been to create music that is memorable and sticky, yet always vulnerable and affecting.
