Martha Redbone Roots Project

Martha Redbone Roots Project

“A charismatic indie-soul diva whose sound is a just-right mix of retro and modern” TIME OUT NEW YORK

Martha Redbone is one of the most vital voices in American Roots music. A multi ward-winning musician, the charismatic songstress is celebrated for her tasty gumbo of roots music embodying the folk and country sounds of her childhood in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky mixed with the eclectic grit of her teenage years in pre-gentrified Brooklyn. With her gospel singing Father’s voice and the spirit of her Cherokee/Choctaw mother’s culture, Redbone broadens the boundaries of Americana.

The band features legendary NY musicians: violinist Charlie Burnham (Cassandra Wilson, James Blood Ulmer), guitarist Marvin Sewell (Regina Carter, Liz Wright) and bassist Fred Cash (Toshi Reagon, India.Arie) in addition to Martha and her long time collaborator and Music Director, pianist/composer Aaron Whitby.
