¡Dia De Muertos Celebration!

Join ALTAS with special guests Plume Varia and Los Mocochetes in celebrating Dia De Muertos!

Take a spiritual journey as ALTAS summons the dead with their unique brand of instrumental rock. Bring an offering to add to our large altar and get there early to participate in the procession of Los Muertos. Traditional pan de muertos and food will be available and we encourage attendees to wear calaveras.

Each musical performance will represent these stages of death celebrated during Dia De Muertos.

The Celebration Of Life

Dia De Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. We are inviting our fans to share in our heritage respectfully and learn more about an important part of our Mexican and Indigenous culture.

Louder than words
Altas speaks volumes about instrumental rock's potential.

Pop musicians like to make things easy on their audiences, relying on time-tested formulas like verse-chorus song structures, predictable chord changes, and sing-along hooks. But out there on the margins, things can get a little more interesting, as musicians experiment with the "through-composed" approach of "serious" classical music, or abandon composition entirely, venturing into the ambient. ALTAS integrates both approaches into their lyricless soundscapes, which at times, echoes the shifting dynamics of Japanese "post-rock" band Mono, or the spacey sonic excursions of early Pink Floyd. Think Steve Reich meets Mogwai. Or don't think at all and just listen.

Plume Varia

Plume Varia is the dreampop/indie-pop project of husband and wife, Shon and Cherie Cobbs. Denver transplants originally from Minneapolis, Cherie and Shon are most comfortable when submerged within a great local music scene. Experienced musicians, writers and performers; they created this project as a way to merge together their deep and independent musical roots in a way that artistically represents both of their individual styles. Plume Varia's music is the balance of lonesome lilting melody and the promise of assured forward motion. Cherie's alluring and imaginative songwriting married with Shon's pull to darker, brooding production creates a dense, refined and consuming sound. They have drawn comparisons to acts such as Beach House, The XX, Lana Del Ray, Portishead and Wye Oak. They've had the pleasure of opening for many National acts such as Peter Murphy, Dada, In The Valley Below, Avec Sans, Handsome Ghost, Jolie Holland, She Keeps Bees, Soko, Rogue Valley, Parellels and many more.

Los Mocochetes

Los Mocochetes are a Xican@ Funk band from Denver, CO. This colorful cast of characters fuses thoughtfully brazen, socio/politically charged song lyrics, groovilicious melodies and high-energy stage antics to create an immersive experience unlike anything you've ever seen before. Much like a machete, which can be used either as a tool to build or a weapon to kill, they have chosen to use their music to inspire and encourage positive social change. Every show is different, but it’s always a dance party with a purpose!
Los Mocochetes received the Westword Music Showcase award for Best Latin Band of 2017 and Best Funk Band of 2018. They were named Colorado Standout for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest 2018 and opened for contest winner Naia Izumi on the Denver stop of his national tour. They have opened for a variety of national touring acts such as The Original Wailers, Lil’ Wayne, Flor de Toloache, Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas, Dos Santos, The Chamanas and Lil’ Jon. They have been featured in festivals including the Westword Music Showcase (local headliner), Denver Post Underground Music Showcase, Colorado Latino Festival, A Taste of Colorado, Mile High 4/20 Festival, Tribal Visions (NM), and have performed at numerous iconic Denver venues such as the Bluebird Theater, Oriental Theater, Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center, Denver Art Museum, Levitt Pavillion, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company, Mercury Cafe, Larimer Lounge, Syntax Physic Opera, Aztlan Theatre, Lost Lake, Hi Dive, 3 Kings Tavern, Herman’s Hideaway, Lion’s Lair, and a sold out Ophelia’s Electric Soap Box. The band has a strong connection to New Mexico, often touring the state playing as far south as Acapulco, MX and as far north as Cheyenne, WY.
The current lineup features artists with a wide variety of influences. They are poets, singers, painters, rappers, actors, musicians, dancers, producers, composers, dreamers, doers, thinkers. They are gente who make music together and enjoy all forms of creativity. The Mocochetes are here to ignite a fire in every audience member to enjoy the moment and then go out and make a difference!
