Al Chestnut of The Chestnut Brothers

Anyone familiar with The Chestnut Brothers (Al & Ty) are well aware of the standard of musical excellence maintained throughout their illustrious career. They are recognized internationally as a very talented singing, songwriting, production team born in Columbia, South Carolina and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under the influence of a father who played sax, mother who sang Gospel and sister who was the featured vocalist in a local Jazz ensemble.

It was this musically rich, nurturing environment that exposed them to a wide variety of music at very young ages and planted seeds from which they blossomed into a dynamic duo with an electrifying stage show that has mesmerized audiences around the world. After joining the international peace movement, they attained a passion for social change. This can be heard in several of their original songs; especially their theme, “Stop the Violence.” As a result, they’ve been anointed globally as Goodwill Ambassadors, Musical Messengers and Princes Of Peace.

After a long hiatus, Al Chestnut takes center stage to blaze a brand new trail without his trusted sidekick. However, this is not the first time he’ll be flying solo, as he and Ty both have in past chapters, with each realizing significant success. Most notably for Al, was an unprecedented run as musical voice of the annual, nationally televised Ms. Black America Pageant for which, he recorded the theme song, “Miss Black America” and “Hey Black Girl” along with performing them when the show filmed in Santa Monica, Philadelphia and with Ty in Washington, DC.

He & Ty also enjoyed the privilege of performing and recording with a vast array of renown artists, such as, Luther Vandross, Grover Washington, Jr., Billy Paul, The Trammps, Phil Perry, James Ingram, The Oak Ridge Boys, Harry Connick, Jr., Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Najee, Roy Ayers, L.L. Cool J, Little Anthony, Cheap Trick and Pete Seeger, to name a few.

Smooth, soulful and dynamic are adjectives that aptly describe the vocal prowess of Al Chestnut. Merging a flavor and style that is uniquely his own, this Ol Skool soul man harkens memories from the glory days of a few pioneers who’ve most influenced him. Primarily, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Eddie Kendricks, Johnny Taylor, Marvin Gaye and the ones whom he & Ty initially patterned themselves after; the mighty Sam & Dave. With a repertoire comprised of songs from R&B, Jazz, Blues, Rock and Reggae genres, Al Chestnut is ready to set the industry on fire.
