Trails and Ways
Incan Abraham, Bells, Cuckoo Chaos

"Temporal, the second EP from Oakland-based DIY-pop quartet Trails and Ways, is a startling — and startlingly impressive — sophomore release: unique and ambitious and freighted with potential, at once dense and delicate, deftly combining disparate genres and dozens of instruments to create a sound that's hard to categorize and equally hard to forget....Temporal manages to invoke sounds as disparate as bossanova, afrobeat, calypso, and jazz, often in the same song; it's telling that the band has a broad range of influences, including Animal Collective, Bon Iver, Thelonius Monk, Drake, Paul Simon, and, especially, tUnE-yArDs." --East Bay Express
Incan Abraham is a NY State founded and LA based four piece specializing in a unique brand of world infused psychedelic pop. Like their name, their music evokes themes ancient and far away, while confronting you with the immediacy and paradoxes of life today.
"They've made it past their mirror stage, and learned the right lessons about rhythmic elasticity, textural curiosity and instrumental democracy."
-Ian Cohen, Pitchfork
"With haunting synth guitars and textured percussion, an Incan Abraham song feels like a memory even the first time you listen to it, a soundscape for a road trip you've already taken."
-TIME.com
Blending heavy percussion, soulful vocal harmonies, and thoughtful arrangements Bells has arrived at a sound that is uniquely theirs. Although they are a new group, they are quickly drawing an audience with diverse musical tastes. Birthed from the imaginations of singer-percussionist Sandra Lawson-Ndu, and bassist-singer Doug Stuart, the songs are brought to life with the help of Derek Barber on guitar and vocals, and Geneva Harrison on drums, percussion, and vibes. They are in the process of recording their first studio album, but have been raising eyebrows with their three home recorded demos.
This five piece is what some might call a San Diego "Super Group" – comprised of players from other bands including The Vision of a Dying World, The Paddle Boat, Black Mamba, and Cousins. The immense musical talent in this line up is apparent in Cuckoo Chaos' live show. These players are tight, energetic, and show personality that is rare in a climate of "cool kids" stoic expression in indie music theses days. In 2010 they won "Best Alternative Band" at the San Diego Music Awards and are currently finishing their highly anticipated debut full length record.
