Sarah Zúñiga is a New York born singer-songwriter and guitarist who has made Athens, Georgia her home. A graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, this “guitarist serves up seven pleasantly crafted nuggets of melodic folk-pop that rise above typical coffeehouse fodder thanks to Zúñiga’s strong voice and thoughtful arrangements”, as reviewed by prestigious Athens’ Flagpole newspaper on Zúñiga’s debut album, Someday Soon. Ecuadorian and Nicaraguan singer- songwriter, Sarah Zúniga’s shows are like listening to a fun mix tape compiled of deep-felt and catchy folk-rock, and Latin tunes. Her music “blends sharp observation with textured poeticism of traditional Spanish folk music", states Audio Femme, a NYC based music blog.
From notably packing out Athens’ renowned Hendershots’ Coffee Bar to playing The Georgia Theatre stage, the 40 Watt Club, Athfest 2018 and 2019, some of the south’s more fun music festivals, to cross country performances. Sarah has studied acting and music in New York City, instructed by veteran professionals from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, The Metropolitan Opera, and Broadway. Sarah has opened up for acts such as Scarlett Stitch, winners of the Georgia Music Awards for Best Rock Band, critically-acclaimed Americana singer/songwriter Elliot Bronson, and many more.
Recording single, "Heart of Mine" and "What Is Love To You" is now available on popular music platforms! 25% of her debut album, Someday Soon, go towards funding the non-profit international organization, MADRE, for their goal specific project to help indigenous women in northern Nicaragua get the tools and education to begin organic sustainable farming within their community. In 2017, Zúñiga’s most popular single, ‘People Do Crazy Things For Love’, was a finalist for the very first annual Vic Chesnutt Award, honoring Athens’ beloved songwriter. Last year, Sarah performed at the 2018 Athens Flagpole Music Awards ceremony in the historic Morton Theatre, where she was nominated for best singer/songwriter for the year. This year, Sarah has several newly released singles and music videos in the works, on the road to Nashville, and set to play the Georgia Theatre once again! Come enjoy this little Latina’s enjoyable performances that will get you smiling and moving. Check out her latest single, "Heart of Mine"; officially released at the prestigious 40 Watt Club, about how anxiety plays a role on perspective, love, and relationship. Lead singer Deb Carter “grew up” blasting music and singing at the top of her lungs to songs by Donna Summers, Jennifer Holliday, Pat Benatar and Diana Ross in her room till a neighbor pounded on the wall yelling “YO BROOKLYN TURN IT DOWN!!” Writing songs has helped Deb reclaim pieces of self that were once stolen while at the same time getting back at those who did her wrong. (Never piss off a songwriter!) In 2014, Deb was the winner of the Georgia Music Award for BEST FEMALE ROCK VOCALS, and in both 2013 and 2014, Scarlett Stitch was nominated for a Georgia Music Awards Nominated for Best Rock Band of the year!
